The ultimate braaibroodjies
BILTONG BRAAIBROODJIE
South Africa’s favourite fireside snack inside South Africa’s favourite braai snack.
MAKES 6 PREPARATION: 15 MIN BRAAI: 8-10 MIN
butter or olive oil
2 red onions, sliced
1 tot soft brown sugar
1 tot balsamic vinegar
200g biltong
12 slices of bread
1 tub (230g) plain cream cheese
240g cheddar cheese, grated or sliced
1 Heat some butter or oil in a pan and fry the onions until soft. Add the sugar and vinegar and simmer over low heat for about 15-20 minutes until the onions are sweet and sticky. Set aside to cool.
2 Chop the biltong finely with your most aggressive, biggest and sharpest knife. If you don’t have a knife that in any way fits this description, buy one.
Build the braaibroodjies: spread butter or olive oil on one side of each slice of bread (these sides will be facing outward in the assembled braaibroodjie). Pack half of these slices buttered sides down and spread cream cheese on all the slices. Then add
