CHICAGO — Snapping images on disposable cameras during childhood fishing trips was Vashon Jordan Jr.'s introduction to the value of photography and capturing a moment in time.

Since then, the 21-year-old photographer's work has mainly been showcased on his social media platforms. But this summer, when the city was moved by myriad social injustices against Black people, that changed.
