WILD WEST
I'm a S7-year-old postie who's had a bike licence for 40 years and rides a '97 ERS. I'm loathe to give it up (it once took me to the Outer Hebrides, and got me home again with a dodgy head gasket) and all it lacks are panniers - the 1997 ERS was the only one without an off-the-peg luggage frame, hence I travel with a backpack, tailpack and tankbag. Meanwhile, my better half Jenny achieved her full licence just over a year ago and has a 10-year-old ENS - same engine as the ER, but a cruiser. This one's a US import ... and it has panniers. The engines are identical, but these are very different bikes to ride. The common denominator is our urge for touring and adventure, having ridden to John O'Groats, Lands' End, Southend
