PERFECT DAY

I live in San Francisco, where our house is right by the ocean. Early mornings are the best time for me to get work done, so I always start with a coffee downstairs and work until my daughter, Alea, wakes up. I get back into I keep my morning routine quick — I’ll wash my face with Tatcha The Deep Cleanse, apply The Essence and then The Water Cream. I love The Silk Canvas Protective Primer — it softens and blurs my complexion so I don’t need to bother with foundation. To finish, I’ll add The Pearl concealer under my eyes, and then a swipe of red lipstick and mascara. When it comes to dressing, I’m a big believer in having a go-to uniform. For me, this means black leggings, boots, a blouse by designers such as Issey Miyake or Victoria Beckham, my Cuyana handbag and my hair in a bun. My work schedule varies. Some days I meet with our Customer Love team or amazing scientists, and other days I go to the warehouse to help pack orders and write love notes to our clients. I’m usually eating lunch during meetings, so I don’t want anything too fragrant. I often opt for something simple like a chicken salad with a light dressing. Towards the end of the day, which is morning in Japan, we have a call with the Tatcha Institute, our Japan-based R&D and scientist team to review any formulas being tested and talk through any upcoming product development. I work with my husband, Eric, and he usually picks up Alea from school and brings her back to the office while we finish up the day. On our way home I ask Alea to tell me something she’s learnt that day. It’s special seeing a day through a child’s eye — it puts everything into perspective. I’m very lucky Eric is a great cook. He has a Big Green Egg [ceramic barbecue] and loves grilling on it all year round. To unwind, I usually read. I’m currently reading Jo Malone’s autobiography, . When I’m lucky, I’ll have a fun night catching up with friends. My closest friends all started out as mentors: Geetha [Murali], the CEO of Room to Read, and Leslie Blodgett, the founder of Bare Escentuals. I check social media messages every day, connecting with customers and learning about people’s skin, their favourite makeup, their cats, anything! Getting ready for bed, I take off any makeup with the Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil, gently exfoliate with The Rice Polish and plump my skin with The Essence and Violet-C Brightening Serum — a new lightweight formula that smooths and softens my skin overnight. Lastly, I test a product in development, a slightly heavier overnight moisturiser. It’s a new release coming out soon.
