Paul Sullivan: Mariano Rivera again makes history in baseball Hall of Fame class that could open some doors wider

As close to perfection as any reliever in major league history, Mariano Rivera made history again on Tuesday, becoming the first unanimous selection to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The Yankees' closer was named on all 425 ballots by the Baseball Writers' Association of America while joining starters Roy Halladay and Mike Mussina and former Mariners DH Edgar Martinez in the class of 2019.

Former White Sox DH Harold Baines and ex-Cubs closer Lee Smith also will be inducted in Cooperstown on July 21, after being selected by a veterans committee in December.
