Imagine the havoc an errant broody hen and chicks could create in a picture-perfect veggie and flower garden. Though not a regular catastrophe for Ian Nash, it’s one of the challenges he works with on his two-acre (almost one hectare) house block in Teesdale in rural Victoria.

Ian has combined his love of horticulture with an equal passion for purebred fowls. His stunning Silkies and Hamburg chickens have spacious, well-maintained yards and, in the main, the birds are kept separate from the gardening area.
