    Economy caps a solid year of labor market growth with a slightly disappointing gain of 148,000 jobs

    WASHINGTON - The economy added a slightly disappointing 148,000 net new jobs last month as the unemployment rate held steady at a 17-year low, capping another solid year of labor market growth in one of the longest expansions in the nation's history.
