About this series

A DEATH TOO TERRIBLE TO CONTEMPLATE. A LIFE GAMBLED FOR EVERYTHING.

With her beloved dying in her arms, a last bargain with a tricky Wittenbrand her only hope of saving him, and the very world itself crumbling to bits around them, Izolda must face Death himself in her bid to turn the tables on her enemies in this deadly game of crowns and finally win a place for her husband ... and herself.

But how can she possibly defeat her enemies when she is mortal and they are not, she is fragile and they are powerful, they wield magic and weapons and all she has is her common sense and a talking severed-head ally?

To finally bring this to an end, she will have to tap every resource, win every throw, and puzzle out every riddle before her time runs out.

It's the fairytale to end all fairytales, and Izolda is the one girl who might finally force a happy ending. If she can just outlast them all.

A STOLEN BRIDE. A TERRIFYING BRIDEGROOM. THE GAME THAT WILL DETERMINE THEIR FATES. I’m a practical girl. I can resign myself to an unwanted marriage – and I had. I just didn’t expect my first potential bridegroom to be murdered by the second and all because I broke the Law of Greeting. No one warned me the law existed. No one told me breaking it would mean I’d be swept up into the arms of a powerful and beautiful immortal bent on taking me as his sixteenth bride and dragging me off to his strange world. That’s a bit much to ask of a person. But I’m not the kind of girl to just give up. Not even if it means facing all the strange mystery and magic of this mad fae world with nothing but my common sense. I will not mope in my room, or go crazy, or let myself be killed by one of his rivals. And I absolutely WILL NOT fall in love with him. Not even when he keeps surprising me with depths and kindness I didn’t expect. Not even if it turns out he actually might have a good reason for all of this. After all, he’s had fifteen wives before me and it’s not a case of “the more the merrier.” Especially not now, when it turns out he's playing a game for the fate of my nation. Failure in this world will mean the desolation of everyone I love. The stakes couldn't be higher. But I have a crafty husband, a severed head best friend who gives surprisingly good advice, and the common sense my mother gave me, and if that isn’t enough to take on the whole of this fae world … well, they’ll just have to be. That's all there is to it. Because I'm not dying unless I have a very good reason. Come along on a wild romantic fantasy adventure with USA Today bestselling author Sarah K. L. Wilson, guaranteed to enthrall, delight, and maybe even surprise you.

A GRIM BETRAYAL. A DYING KING. A HUSBAND WHO WON'T LET HER GO. With the heart of the Wittenhame still ringing from Izolda's actions and her new husband shocked at her betrayal, the future seems very grim indeed. If Izolda had been asked if she wanted to be rescued from her would-be bridegroom and returned to her home and family, she would have eagerly agreed to go, but now that she is back in the mortal world, she is quickly discovering that home, family and even the inclinations of her own heart are not what she expected. Worse yet, Izolda has unwittingly become a pawn in a deadly dance between two Wittenbrand, snatched from the claws of one of them only to be stolen back by the other. With her bodiless friend Grosbeak along for the ride and the great game of crowns and thrones still being played out across the nations, will Izolda's endless common sense still be enough to rescue her from disaster? Or will she fall prey to the terrible ambitions of her enemies? DANCE WITH THE SWORD is the second book in the Bluebeard's Secret series following the eerie and romantic story of FLY WITH THE ARROW.

But Izolda is not the practical girl she once was who would have been happy for a home and a place. Instead, she's willing to make any bargain and offer any sacrifice if it will just get her back into the Wittenhame with a chance to win back the life of the man she loves, the man she once feared, the man destined to change everything - Bluebeard. Can Izolda out-bargain the bargainers, out-trick the tricksters, and out-dare everyone else in her desperate bid to get back everything she's lost?

Author

Sarah K. L. Wilson

I write timeless stories. Not the stories you think you want but the stories you don't know you desperately need.I believe in happy endings and that it should take a lot of struggle to get to them.I believe that sometimes violence is the answer, that sometimes no one is coming to save you, and that self-sacrifice is always worth it.I believe in big twists and beginnings that start in the end.I believe in heroic acts of bravery, that chaos sometimes trumps order, that there's humor in dark things, and that risks are what you make of them.I believe in the someday that will make all things new.And I believe in stories - sweeping, epic, glorious stories that renew our hearts and our hopes and refresh our minds like woodland streams.Oh, and I'm a USA Today bestselling author. I suppose I should mention that.

Very captivating and a great listen. The way the story builds is fantastic. The little hints of romance, but not too much. Action and descriptive. Looking forward to finishing the series, but not too soon. I already don't want it to end.

First book and second book were wonderful. Third book was slow. This book I felt was unnecessary.

I’ve often wondered what a story would be like if it wrapped up all of the many endings of the many characters. I do not wonder anymore. This book has answered that question for me.

Also, I really liked the beginning of this series, but found there to be a turning point around book 3, with either intentional or unintentional religious allegories that I really did not care for .
