This episode is in collaboration with ARTPOWHER Contemporary, an art project initiative that places focus on female-identifying and non-binary creatives in the arts. The CEO, Anna Maurrasse-Tomaiuolo, founded ARTPOWHER with the aim of raising awareness about gender stereotypes and gender inequality while inspiring change through creativity and collaborations. For International Women’s Day in March 2021, I conducted a written interview with Claudia about her works in the online exhibition “Yin My Way Out”, presented by ARTPOWHER Contemporary which launched on Artsy on May 8th and will be coming to an end on June 10th. Within the scope of the exhibition, I wrote an essay on the art of illustration which covers the history of illustration, how the arts sector views illustration, how the emergence of the digital has had an effect on this, and why there is some friction when it comes to using the labels of “illustrator” and “artist”.

I obtained my BA in History of Art at University College London, and am currently continuing my education at Goldsmiths University with an MA in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy.
