Description
Professional hospice caregivers are people, too. Which means that even on our best days we make mistakes. With the best of intentions we sometimes say the wrong things.
Helen & Jerry share some of the embarrassing things they've said that led them to create a list of the Top 10 Things Hospice Professionals Should Never Say. This list is not comprehensive, and they're not in any particular order. With that in mind, here is the top 10 list of things not to say.
10. "There's nothing else we can do."
9. "Just do what we're telling you to do."
8. "This is normal."
7. "You don't need to worry about that."
6. Offering advice outside of your discipline.
5. "God will not give you more than you can bear."
4. Don't make promises you can't keep.
3. Learn to talk about death in ways that are clinically appropriate.
2. "It's all part of the process."
1. "I understand how you feel."
We've all said some of these things, but we should do our best to avoid them.
