Description

Today on the podcast I am delighted to speak to the knowledgable Dr Hannah Short. Hannah, after suffering from debilitating pre-menstrual symptoms her whole adult life had surgical menopause, which is what I want to talk about today.A few years down the line Hannah not only shares her personal experience but also everything she has learned in her day-to-day work and she is also the co-author of The Complete Guide to POI and Early Menopause.Hannah describes how hard that journey was and how her sudden menopause was really tricky to manage. And if a doctor with all their knowledge says so, well… it just shows how complex an issue this is!And so I hope this episode will give you a better understanding of surgical menopause.Hannah is a GP and accredited Specialist in Menopause & Premenstrual Disorders. She has a keen interest in the role of plant-based nutrition in health and we are also going to speak about that. She lectures widely, providing education and information for both fellow healthcare professionals and the public. With her book, The Complete Guide to POI and Early Menopause, Hannah and co-author Mandy Leonhardt want to offer support for every stage of your journey through early menopause and Premature Ovarian Insufficiency. The book offers a road map to navigating the emotional and hormonal rollercoaster.  Here are the highlights:(03:33) Hannah’s debilitating issues with her periods(12:56) Using complementary therapies(16:09) Going through surgical menopause(18:22) Premenstrual disorder(25:25) Menopause as a result of cancer is obviously very different to natural menopause(33:06) HRT post-cancer(43:27) Do more exercise(50:00) Plant-based diet(01:09:07) You need to continuously put effort into your wellbeing Connect with Hannah:Website: https://drhannahshort.co.uk/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dr.hannah.short/?hl=enHannah’s book: The Complete Guide to POI and Early Menopause About Dani:The Menopause and Cancer Podcast is hosted by Dani Binnington, menopause guide, patients advocate for people in menopause after a cancer diagnosis, and founder of the online platform Healthy Whole Me.There is lots of information out there about the menopause but hardly any if you have had a cancer diagnosis as well. Many people say to me they have no idea what their options are, who to ask for help, and that they feel really isolated in their experiences.I started this podcast because there was nothing out there when I was thrown into surgical menopause at the age of 39, which followed on from my cancer diagnosis aged 33.Through the episodes, I want to create more awareness, share information from our fabulous guest experts, doctors and other specialists in the cancer and menopause field. And of course, I will share stories from the people in our community. So that together we can work towards a better menopause experience. For all of us.More educated, better informed and less...

Has cancer treatment led you to early menopause? Do you feel confused about your options? This podcast hosts conversations with cancer patients, survivors and medical professionals to learn about treatments available for women with a cancer diagnosis.  I’m Dani Binnington, after breast cancer, surgery to remove my ovaries led me to early menopause, I had no idea what my treatment options were and who in my medical team could help me figure out what to do about my symptoms. I felt alone and unsupported. It took me so long to discover I had lots of options too. If only I’d known sooner! Everything I wish I’d known back then is inside these conversations - so you can make the right choices now.  These episodes are a good place to start: 1. Rethinking Tamoxifen & Aromatase Inhibitors  2. Why I decided to take HRT after an oestrogen driven cancer 2. Alcohol & Me Menopause and cancer is also a thriving community online and in real life.  Join the Facebook community to connect with women going through the same thing you are: https://www.facebook.com/groups/menopauseandcancerchathub
