Description

Bula, Ma’lelei, Talofa and Welcome to Season 07 Episode 31 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a bright and sunny Wednesday morning 01 November 2023.Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent. In rugby union: And we’re counting down to the annual Oceania Rugby 7s Championship at Brisbane’s Ballymore Stadium on 10 – 12 November. The three-day tournament will feature 25 teams, 15 men’s and 10 women’s teams, from 14 countries in the region. The top Pacific Island rugby 7s nations - Fiji and Samoa are buzzing for some game time after a long break from the HSBC SVNS Series and World Rugby Challenger Series. Tonga in particular will try and seize the opportunity to create history and qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics for the first time. Given that New Zealand, Fiji and Australia have already qualified for Paris 2024, the race to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics is realistically between Samoa and Tonga. Like Tonga, Samoa’s Men’s 7s Coach, Brian Lima says making it to Paris is at the top of the agenda for his men: “We have been preparing well since the end of the HSBC series, aware that the Oceania 7s is perhaps our best chance to qualify.”Lima has done the smart thing, sending his squad to train at the Sigatoka sand dunes in Fiji this week to sharpen up their fitness.Go Samoa Go!In rugby league: Our world famous tips for the Finals of the Pacific Cup tournament this Saturday in Hamilton, New Zealand: we tip the NZ Kiwis to bongocongo the Kangaroos. And in the Pacific Bowl Final on Sunday in Port Moresby, we tip the Fiji Bati to sivosivo the Papua New Guinea Kumuls again.Again? Yes again! In football: Football fans are reacting with fury over the Ballon d’Or ceremony and not because of who was declared the best man and woman player - but those presenting the trophies.Argentinian megastar Lionel Messi won his record eighth Ballon d’Or at the glitzy Paris ceremony, while Spanish star Aitana Bonmati won the Ballon d’Or Féminin. The annual ceremony is the soccer world’s equivalent of the Oscars. But it was who presented Bonmati the gilt award that has caused a stir among fans: Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic. In combat sports: On the undercard of Fury-Ngannou, Martin Bakole swallowed a wasp during his fight with Carlos Takam.Yes, you heard that right, a few rounds into the fight, Bakole says he swallowed a wasp.It stung him on the side of his face and then flew into his mouth so he swallowed it. “I can’t believe it, I’m surprised. I’m still coughing now.”The boxer from the Democratic Republic of Congo went on to win the fight by fourth-round stoppage.Bakole is now on a nine-fight win streak, as he continues to rise up the ranks in pursuit of a heavyweight world title shot. And finally in SportsBiz: Across three days of competition at the Oceania Rugby 7s Championship in Brisbane next weekend, 66 games (35 men’s and 31 women’s games) will be played, coupled with an exciting raft of entertainment, with DJs representing their different island nations, like Samoan DJ Masini, Fijian DJ Bailey, Fijian-Tongan DJ Bawlin and Cook Islander DJ GZ, plus performances from JSQE who is Samoan-Fijian. Man, where did they dredge up these Pasifika DJ dudes from? And that’s a wrap! For TeivovoSports.com I’m Culden Kamea – please hit the like and subscribe buttons below if you want to receive more Pasifika sports highlights on Breakfast Bites.Mahalo, Kakite and tank you all too mas for all your love and support.#TEIVOVORugby #TEIVOVODigital #TeivovoRugby #TeivovoDigital #rugby #rugby7s #FijiRugby #rugbyunion #rugbyleague #Raka #team #rugbytraining #sports #FRU #Fiji #womensrugby #rugbygirls #wrugby #ladiesrugby #womeninsport #woman #rugby #rugby7s #FijiRugby #rugbyunion #rugbyleague #fitness #weightlifting #training #team #rugbytraining #sports #rakavi #DevelopmentFiji
