Description

Malo  and welcome to Season 3 Episode 78 of Breakfast Bites, by  TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on another  brilliant blue sky Monday morning 19 December 2022, coming to you from  paradise on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean ! The  greatest sporting event on earth, the FIFA World Cup has just ended in  Qatar this morning with Lionel Messi leading Argentina to a 4-2 win on  penalties over France in the final, after Kylian Mbappe scored a hat  trick for France to draw 3-3 at fulltime. Like every other game at this World Cup that went into extra time, the game ended up in a penalty shootout. And like every other game at this World Cup that went to a penalty shootout, the team taking the second penalty won. Lionel Messi won the coin toss to decide who went first and he chose second. Kylian  Mbappe won the Player of the Final award for scoring a hat trick to  keep France in the contest – his third goal, leading from the front,  coming from the first penalty for France. The  final was notable also for the most goals ever 3-3 at fulltime and 4-2  in the penalty shootout so 7-5 overall and twelve goals in total. Truly a FIFA World Cup Final like no other and one of the greatest international football games of all time. The pool games also saw two of the biggest upsets in World Cup history: Saudi Arabia’s 2-1 win over Argentina and Japan’s 2-1 victory over Germany. The quarterfinals featured four thrillers, two decided on penalty kicks. And who can forget Morocco’s run - the first African nation to advance to the semifinals. So how did the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar measure up? Surrounded  by controversy from when it won the bid back in 2012, one can only  admire Qatar for the massive investment – US$300Billion in major  infrastructure and beautiful stadiums that they built especially for  this tournament. No  fan who attended the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar has had a bad word to  say about their hosts, the hospitality, the facilities and the event –  quite simply it was one of the best. Qatar did the Arab world proud and so too did Morocco with their unprecedented run and fourth place finish. Now we can all move on with our lives.
