Description

Malo  and welcome to Episode 66 of Breakfast Bites by TeivovoSports.com – a  wrap of Pasifika peoples sports on this bright, sunny and warm Sunday  morning 04 September 2022 - coming to you from the 180th meridian in the  middle of the Pacific Ocean. In tennis – Aussie star Ajla Tomljanovic has defeated Serena Williams 7-5, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1 to end the superstar’s dream run at the US Open in the  third round, where she went down fighting, saving a whopping five match  points in an epic final stand, in what could very well be the final  tennis match of her glittering career. But it was not to be as Tomljanovic eventually got the job done. Williams then delivered an emotional post-match interview, with barely a dry eye inside Arthur Ashe Stadium. “It’s been a fun ride,” she said. Go Serena Go! Meanwhile  2012 Mens champ Andy Murray fell by the wayside and so we could see  Spanish Ace, Rafa Nadal against Awful Aussie Nick Kyrgios for the US  Open Mens title. In rugby – the  All Blacks were back to their brilliant best last night and redeemed  themselves with a 53-3 thrashing of Argentina in the rain in Hamilton.  Taukei’aho, Savea and Reiko Ioane were outstanding in a full on team  effort. It was great to see Sam Cane and Ian Foster smiling – they live to fight another Test! Meanwhile,  at the brand spanking new Allianz Stadium in Sydney, the Springboks  smashed the Wallabies in the collision from the outset for a  comprehensive 24-8 win last night, highlighted by a dazzling debut try  for 19-year-old Wing Canan Moodie. The  Boks now head into two-Tests against Los Pumas and the Wallabies take  on the All Blacks for the Bledisloe with all four teams on 2 wins – 2  loss records. In rugby league – the  Broncos dream of a return to the NRL Top 8 and finals footy this season  came screeching to a grinding halt after they crashed out to the Saint  George Dragons 22-12 yesterday, but as Coach Kevin Walters said, “13 wins is certainly a lot more than seven we had last year.” North  Queensland superstar Valentine Holmes scored a hat-trick of tries for  the Cowboys as they warmed up for the NRL finals with an emphatic 38-8  defeat of a brave but outclassed baby Panthers outfit in Townsville last  night. In  boxing – James “Quick” Tillis is the only man who fought both Knockout  Kings Ernie Shavers and Mike Tyson over 10 rounds each – lost but  survived. He  battled Shavers in 1982 and Tyson in 1986 - both world title fights,  and he says there is no comparison who hit harder, none whatsoever! “Shavers  hit so hard he could turn horse piss into gasoline. When he hit me and  knocked me down, I saw pink mice and rats smoking cigarettes. That fight  with Shavers was the toughest 30 minutes of my life. Mike Tyson hit  like a sissy in comparison. He never would give me a rematch.” Spoken like a true warrior – who maybe took one punch too many. For TeivovoSports.com – I’m Culden Kamea, Mahalo, vina’a and thank you!
