Bereavement is the state of being emotionally overwhelmed due to such loss and it is considered normal.Experiencing the death of a beloved one can be one of life's most devastating events, leaving a profound and lasting impact. When a beloved pet passes away, it is understandable to feel immense grief and sorrow due to the strong bond that has been created. A lot of people consider their furry friends to be as close as family members, so these emotions are perfectly normal.Relationships with our animalsThe grief experienced from the death of a beloved pet can be just as profound as the sorrow of losing a human family member. The bond between humans and animals is quite remarkable as they provide unconditional love and companionship. In return for their loyalty and companionship, we give our pets the love and care they need in order to thrive. Pets can provide us with a feeling of home, safety and identity. If we lose them, the disruption to our lives is significant; they keep our secrets and offer us unconditional love - no matter what.Losing a pet can be even more traumatic than losing a human loved-one.  Human decline is left to run it’s course and can lead to suffering, long term illness and pain, and often, we are relieved when our loved ones pass.  The advantage of losing a pet is that we can sometimes choose the time of their passing to avoid long-term pain and illness.  What does grief feel like?People often underestimate the depths of their sadness when expecting or dealing with the passing of a beloved pet. Grief can be emotionally overwhelming and can take a heavy toll on the mind & body of an individual. It may prove to be difficult to manage and cope with such intense emotions. Each person experiences grief in a different way. Even though kids and adults experience grief differently, children can feel grief as strongly as adults do.
