When people strive to be irreplaceable, they don't have boundaries, or clear expectations, overwork themselves and become pleasers. When your company feels like nobody else can do the job like you, they don't see you for other positions except that. Striving to be irreplaceable and overworking yourself does not work in your favor. It only makes you a permanent fixture for your position, and they will not see you doing something else outside what you are breaking your neck for. Getting promoted is not about hard work. It’s about documenting every success, impact, and process that you have streamlined to help you see the growth in your skills, what you are capable of, and how you can get promoted and then ask for it.
