Description

If work-life balance is something you crave as a doctor, you’ve probably thought about or looked into a few telehealth jobs as a new career option.
And this makes sense. Telemedicine GP jobs give doctors the freedom to work remotely, set their own hours and cut down on traditional clinical medicine.
But what does the reality of working as a doctor in telehealth jobs and companies involve? And how can GPs choose the best telehealth company to match their needs?
In this episode, I speak with Dr. Sherina Fernandes, GP and Clinical Lead at popular doctor-founded telehealth company Doctor Care Anywhere (DCA).

With her considerable experience working in telehealth we discuss how doctors can carve out a flexible new career path through telemedicine GP jobs and the extensive transferable skills that GPs can offer telehealth companies.

We also explore the advantages of working in telehealth, from flexible hours and remote work, to increased work-life balance and the opportunity to gain new experiences that allow doctors to progress professionally.

Best of all, with many companies currently trying to attract GPs, it’s a jobseeker’s market right now. So, we discuss how you can carefully vet a telehealth company and telemedicine GP job to make sure they’re both the best fit for you.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Any interview is a two-way process. You are also deciding if the company is right for you.
When you work digitally, you really can help patients and are able to get to know them.
The user experience with the platform is an important factor.
A lot of companies prefer employed to self-employed and if you are employed your indemnities are covered.
Smaller companies are likely to offer more flexibility.
With a telehealth company, you can do sessions and explore the other opportunities you may want to pursue.
There are many transferable skills that you have as a GP including extensive communication and risk assessment skills.
Getting into the clinical lead role has really opened everything up for me.
Opportunities for me have included public speaking, mentoring and being part of creating protocols and policies about the areas I’m interested in.
Get involved and let the organisation know what your area of interest is.
You are more likely to progress with a company if you are there from the beginning.

BEST MOMENTS
‘Now all GPs have experience in working digitally and managing patients remotely.’
