Description

Our pets are hard-wired to hide their pain. Their evolutionary instinct is to show no weakness to potential predators. But that often makes it difficult for pet parents to determine how much a pet is hurting. Thankfully, we are joined today by Dr. Tamara Grubb, a board certified anesthesiologist and president-elect of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management to help us identify the signs of pain for our pets and discuss some of the treatment options to alleviate that pain. Here are links to information we talked about today: Advocating for Best Practices in the Treatment of Animals in Pain from the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management How to Know If Your Pet Is In Pain: Signs of Discomfort from the American Kennel Club The Feline Musculoskelatal Pain Index from PainFreeCats.org Feline Grimace Scale app Find resources about canine arthritis with CARE Your Dog, Arthritis & How CAM Can Help from Canine Arthritis Management Got a question for Michael and Stephen? The Family Pet is a podcast for curious pet parents. We believe that the more you know about pet healthcare, the better pet parent you can be. Advancements in the veterinary industry have provided pet parents with more care options than ever before, but all these choices can leave pet parents with feelings of confusion and uncertainty when it comes to making decisions in the veterinary office. The Family Pet hosts and guests bring their years of veterinary experience and expertise to the microphone to share useful information which will help you have a better understanding of the veterinary care options available. We will empower you with the knowledge to make educated decisions regarding your pet’s healthcare needs, and help you be the human that your pet already thinks you are!
