Young women in pursuit of a higher education use their stripper earnings to pay for tuition. Stripping to pay for school may sound like a cliché to some, but it was the fastest and easiest way for Celeste to pay for her teaching credentials. When Celeste moved to California, several courses didn’t transfer to get her California teaching credentials, and she had a full year of school ahead of her. What started out as a job interview as a cocktail waitress quickly turned into a lucrative way for her to pay for school. But not without its consequences. Decades later, there’s still a part of her that feels shame about it. But why should it be shameful? There are always groups of people and religious groups that will find pretty much anything wrong and sinful, but is it really? We explore the effect over the years and what sharing the secret and releasing the shame has brought about a huge breakthrough in her life. ______If you or anyone you know is struggling with addiction, depression, trauma, sexual abuse or feeling overwhelmed, we've compiled a list of resources at secretlifepodcast.com.______ Celeste is in real life is Jennifer Bold.Jennifer lives in Southern California but is a Michigan girl through and through. Brianne Davis: I'm a Recovering Sex and Love Addict: I was a shell of a person when I walked into my first Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous meeting. As I listened to people share about this thing called sex and love addiction. Tears started to form in my eyes when I said I was a newcomer. I was crying not out of sadness, but an overwhelming feeling of hope. For the first time in my life, I didn't feel alone or broken. We have a saying in the rooms; "No one can meet our deepest needs, no matter how hard we try." And believe me, I tried. Let's just say, I was the worst person you might have ever met before I got sober. I was a liar, a cheat, and a thief. I used men as my drug of choice. I wanted to have power and control over anyone and anything because I felt so powerless inside. I had this dark hole I was always trying to fill with outside things. And I could not stop even when I desperately wanted to. Every day I see people at the lowest of lows. They are clawing their way out from und by Secret Life
