Description
Sustainability has become an important focus area over the last 20 years as more companies are beginning to embrace it. Stefano states that 80% of global emissions come from Scope 3, and that supply chain is a big actor of it (02:20).Stefano believes there are two approaches to tackle sustainability challenges in the supply chain industry. The first solution is short term, which includes minimizing the obsolete when it comes to materials in landfills and making different decisions when it comes to inventory and production. The second solution is long term, which includes minimizing transport loading in terms of weight and volume and reducing water consumption. (03:16)Stefano notes that the supply chain industry needs to take a leading role in managing sustainability due to the effects of Scope 3 emissions. He believes the new generation of consumers will demand better sustainability outcomes from companies, and the government should intervene to make sure those in supply chain are competing in a fair business world. (08:25)Climate change will cause foreseeable disruptions in the future if things continue to progress as they have, which is why it’s more important than ever for companies to adopt digital twins. Stefano states that Excel spreadsheets aren’t sufficient to automate the calculation of the hundreds of analyses that are needed to mitigate these disruptionsSustainability will become a necessity in Europe as more organizations will need to declare their CO2 impacts and maintain Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) targets.
