Description

Is there still a chance the San Francisco Giants could sign Carlos Correa. SF Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said a week ago that Correa's camp appeared to be focused on a deal elsewhere, with the assumption being that the New York Mets were the overwhelmingly likely destination. However, according to reports from SNY, the Mets and Correa may not happen afterall. The Mets have reportedly become "very frustrated" with the negoatiations to the point of perhaps "abandoning the deal altogether." If that happens, do the Giants actually have a shot again? Do the Giants even want Carlos Correa at this point? All of these questions are still relevant, more than three weeks after the Giants cancelled Correa's introductory press conference.
Turing the page, is there any chance Casey Schmitt is the SF Giants' Opening Day third baseman? And given the larger context of the San Francisco Giants' offseason, should they just let the young guys play this year? Schmitt and Kyle Harrison are close to MLB-ready, but that doesn't meant the Giants should just throw guys into the fire unless they're deemed ready for the major leagues. That's not how MLB prospect progression usually works.
Are the 2023 SF Giants better on paper than the 2021 Giants? Maybe not, but it's certainly not too far off. We often act like we know what's going to happen in an upcoming season, when in reality we are pretty bad at predicting results. Who had the Giants winning even 90 games in 2021, let alone 107?
