Today, we celebrate the Memorial of St. Cecilia, a virgin and martyr in the 3rd century. St. Cecilia is one of the most famous and venerated Roman saints.
Cecilia led a life of prayer and meditation. She was a witness of purity and praise, an example of a life lived in the world but not of the world, and of fidelity to Christ that is not afraid even of death.
In 1599 her grave was opened and her body was found in a coffin of cypress wood. It lay incorrupt. Since the Middle Ages, Cecilia has been honored as the patron of Church music.
