Description

Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Demarcus Lawrence recently signed a contract worth upwards of $100 million. With Seattle Seahawks defensive end Frank Clark on the franchise tag, he is in position for a similar type of contract. What does that mean for the Seahawks going into the draft? Brandan Schulze and Rob Staton discuss the range of options the team has over the next couple weeks. From paying Clark now, making a trade ahead of the draft, or allowing him to play 2019 under the franchise tag before making a decision next season, there are benefits and challenges with any of the scenarios under consideration.
With Russell Wilson wanting a contract signed by April 15th, it does take away the ability for the Seahawks front office to see if one of the top quarterbacks in the draft could fall to them in the first round. Is that a strategic move by Wilson's team, or something that shouldn't even be a concern considering just how few picks Seattle has at the moment? Regardless, Rob believes the Seahawks may end up calling Wilson's bluff on the mid-April deadline and we won't see a deal until later on. If negotiations continue through the month, drafting a quarterback late in the first round or early in the second round would be one way to have some insurance at that spot.
Yesterday we explored a three-round mock draft and seven possible picks for the Seahawks in the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft. In this show we explore some of the draft prospects who also have upside on special teams. With Tyler Lockett going into his fifth season and among the top returners in Seahawks history for punt and kickoff returns, Seattle could be considering some other options. We discuss four players coming up in the draft as well as a second-year player who had tremendous potential as a returner coming out of college last year.
