Description

Welcome to episode 30 of the Lovecars On The Grid Podcast! Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman bring us another motorsport roundup of the events from the past week!
We've had a jam packed motorsport week from around the World, with Formula 1, F2 and W Series at Paul Ricard in France. We've also had booing in NASCAR, Indycar and World Superbikes.
Firstly, we pay tribute to Paddy Hopkirk, the famous, Irish rally driver that was famous for driving MINIs.
In Formula 1, we had an interesting weekend at Paul Ricard. Charles LeClerc had an unfortunate weekend, and ended up crashing into the barriers in France. Max Verstappen had managed to wear out his tyres in his Red Bull and following some poor strategy from Ferrari, Verstappen almost overtook during the Ferrari pitstop.
Following a virtual safety car, Mercedes driver, George Russell left a huge gap between him and the driver in front of him. Russell then caught up with Perez, jumping the Mexican driver once the racing resumed.
The McLaren result continues to be interesting, as Lando Norris continues to out perform team mate Daniel Ricciardo. Should Ricciardo continue to drive in F1?
In Formula 2, Liam Lawson won the sprint race, having qualified in 9th place. In the main race, Japanese driver Ayumu Iwasa took the win, in his Red Bull.
The main highlight of the Porsche Supercup were the track limits! Or lack of them! With drivers using the edge of the track to gain overtakes or maintain their positions. Harry King took 2nd place, whilst the win went to rookie driver, Bastian Buus.
The W Series was also supporting the Formula 1, with a 7th win for Jamie Chadwick. Should Jamie move to Formula 3?
NASCAR was at Pocono Raceway. Unfortunately, following a restart with just over 36 laps to go, Hamlin and Ross Chastain went head to head, with Chastain trying to go around the outside of Hamlin. This resulted in Hamlin squeezing his competitor out, forcing him into the wall. Hamlin went over the line in 1st place, but both Joe Gibbs drivers were disqualified for having incorrect aero. The win was therefore given to Chase Elliot.
Indycar was at the Iowa Speedway for 300 laps, for a fairly dull race. Josef Newgarden won the first race, with Pat O'Ward behind him in second.   The British Superbikes were at Brands Hatch, with a win for Jason O'Halloran on his Yamaha.
Next week, we have Formula 1, Formula 2, F3 and W Series in Hungary, at the Hungaoring. NASCAR and Indycar are at Indianapolis. Superbikes are in the Czech Republic. BTCC are up in Scotland at Knockhill and Formula E is in London at the Excel Centre for an indoor race!
What are your predictions for Formula 1 in Hungary? Let us know your top three drivers in the comments!
