Description

Welcome to episode 28 of the Lovecars On The Grid Podcast. Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman are back with another roundup of motorsport events from the past week!
We apologise with the podcast being slightly late this week, but one of our hosts was out of action with Covid! Thankfully, Paul is on the road to recovery now, but apologies for us being late!
This week, we have loads to talk about. From crowd controversy in Formula 1, to disqualifications in F2! Plus, Formula 2, F3, Porsche Supercup, WEC in Monza, Extreme E in Sardinia and NASCAR and Indycar in the US!
Kicking off with the F1, we had booing from the crowd towards British driver, Lewis Hamilton. This follows on from Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen being booed at the Silverstone Grand Prix the other week. Lewis had a crash in Austria during the qualifying, but is this acceptable?  Apart from the crowd, we had a very entertaining grand prix, with a win for Ferrari driver, Charles LeClerc, with 2nd place going to Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton finally getting his first podium of the season, finishing in 3rd place.
Mick Schumacher achieved some more points in his Haas, achieving 6th place, after receiving his first points in the last race. Who do you think will win the championship this year?
In Formula 2, the sprint race was won by New Zealand driver, Marcus Armstrong. The main races were really wet, following some rain in the morning, and after some controversy, the feature race win went to Logan Sargeant, following two other racers being penalised for running out of fuel and a team drying the track with leaf blowers.
In Formula 3, Jack Crawford won the reverse grid race. The feature race was won by Isack Hadjar with Red Bull.   The supporting Porsche Supercup race was looking good for British driver, Harry King, but the lead slipped away from him, giving it to Dylan Pereira.
The WEC was taking place at Monza, where Peugeot launched their 9X8 Hypercar. Glickenhaus got pole position, but after an engine failure, couldn't hold onto the lead. The win went to Alpine, with Toyota in 2nd and 3rd place. We saw a horrendous crash for Aston Martin as a result of the sausage curbs. Should sausage curbs be used in motor racing?
Extreme E had a double header in Sardinia, with even a rollover with the off road vehicles. Tiff and Paul still aren't warming to Extreme E, though!
Over in NASCAR, Chase Elliot won at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. With multiple, mass crashes.
There was no Indycar race this week, but there was certainly lots of gossip, with two teams announcing that they had signed driver Alex Palou.
Paul was racing at Donington Park with Caterham this weekend. Having qualified in 6th place and fought up to 3rd place, but finished in 7th due to a safety car. Paul did managed his first ever fastest lap, though! In race 2, he went form 7th place to 4th place!
Finally, Michael Masi has left the FIA! He's gone looking for a new career and has announced his retirement from the FIA.
Next week, we have WRC in Estonia, Indycar is back, plus in Toronto. NASCAR is in New Hampshire and Formula E in New York! In the UK, the British Superbikes are in Donington!
