Last year, the San Francisco Giants did more than get the better of the Padres. The Padres, a team that was expected to contend with the Dodgers for the division title, fell completely flat and finished below .500.
So far this year, these two teams have been neck-and-neck all season long. San Diego currently holds an edge, with a 1.5-game lead over the SF Giants. Which makes this upcoming series all the more important. With a winning series, the Giants can close the gap. If the Pads with the series, however, they'll gain some important separation.
