Description

Read along to practice your English and to learn the English phrases DON'T COUNT YOUR CHICKENS BEFORE THEY HATCH and EARLY TO BED, EARLY TO RISE, MAKES A MAN HEALTHY, WEALTHY, and WISE:In this English lesson, I wanted to help you learn the English phrase don't count your chickens before they hatch. When we say in English that you should not count your chickens before they hatch, we mean that you shouldn't expect something to happen before it actually happens. You shouldn't hope that something happens before it actually happens. Here's a good example. Maybe you went to three different job interviews and you're hoping that you get a job at the company that you really want to work at. You shouldn't then go and buy a car and rent a really expensive apartment and spend all kinds of money, thinking that you will get the job. If you went to the job interview, you should wait patiently to hear back as to whether you did get the job or not before you spend too much money. Because you don't want to count your chickens before they hatch. This literally means if you have six eggs, don't think in a few weeks you're gonna have six chickens. Who knows? The next phrase I wanted to teach you is the phrase early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. I almost forgot the whole phrase, but we do say this sometimes in English by the way, the don't count your chickens before they hatch phrase. I did just hear the other day, but it's kinda rare now, it's kind of an old-fashioned phrase. And the phrase early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise is kind of an older phrase too, but I thought I should teach them to you. I'm not sure if this phrase is true. I have gone to bed early my whole life and I do get up really early and I'm fairly healthy now. I'm not wealthy. I don't know if wise would be a good word to describe me. I think I'm fairly intelligent, but I wouldn't say that I'm wise. So here's what I can tell you. Early to bed and early to rise, I think makes you healthy. I'm not sure if it's gonna make you wealthy or if it's going to make you wise. But hey, it's worth a try.So, to review, don't count your chickens before they hatch simply means don't expect something is going to happen until it actually happens. And if you say, "Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise," it's just a good recommendation to take care of yourself because it might benefit you in the long-run.Hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video. This comment is from Natalia and Natalia says, "I see Oscar at his usual job. He walks around the lawn and sniffs the grass to determine if there were any strangers." And my reply is, "He is really good at that. He is the perfect dog in a lot of ways." So this is from the last video where Oscar is in the background and then a little while later a cat goes by. And Oscar simply walks in the background, looks, and then keeps walking. He doesn't even look at the camera, he's just kinda checking to see if anyone has been around or if anyone's on our property. So, thanks Natalia, for that comment by the way.Yes, Oscar is a perfect dog in a lot of ways. We've had a few dogs in our time here on the farm and Oscar's definitely one of the perfect, most perfect dogs that we have had. He barks when strangers come on the property, he's a really good friend for Jen when she's working in the flower field. He actually sits on her lawnmower sometimes, maybe I'll put a picture here of him sitting on the lawnmower seat. So we have a small tractor that we use to mow the lawn called a lawn tractor or garden tractor and he sits on the seat sometimes. He's just a really good dog, he's super nice. So he's not too old, he's not too young. Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/bobthecanadian)
