Description
As choir directors, we often talk to our singers about having them practice at home. Singing is like any other learned skill--singers must really be committed to practicing consistently, and with purpose, in order to see improvement. Well, due to the current pandemic, home might now be our singers’ BEST opportunity to sing! But how many of us growing up were comfortable practicing with our parents around? Singing at home can make many of our young singers self-conscious and uncomfortable. But if we give our singers, and their parents, some guidelines about setting up a “safe space” for them to practice at home, our singers can use this time at home to truly grow and develop as musicians. So, I created a set of "Guidelines for Singing at Home" to help singers feel more comfortable practicing at home, as well as to help their parents be positive and supportive, without making their young singers feel self-conscious. I put together a PDF graphic for “Guidelines for Singing at Home” that I have shared with my singers and their parents that you may also find useful.
