Description

Iiris Murto A question about personal branding: majority of the advice I've seen about branding is for your business and/or creative work. And that's all wonderful! But I've found it really difficult to find the applicable points to something more "boring" and less flashy, such as my field (sports economics and analytics). How would you go about building a captivating and dynamic personal brand when your area of expertise is inherently just looking at numbers and your field is mostly male. As someone who loves baking and high heels AND a good set of data, I'm wondering: how to mix all these often conflicting aspects and demands into a coherent personal brand that will help me move forward in my career? Great question Employee in a corporate consulting role. Male dominated. Numbers and spreadsheets. 8 years - Got promoted and raises but knew there was something more out there for me. Halfway through I started created a Personal Brand where I wanted to go, for my next step. It too a few years but I had a vision and created my personal brand on my vision of who I wanted to be in 5-10 years from then. That personal brand I built helped me get my next job which was a Professor at DeVry University. I put my personal brand/my blog on my resume and used everything I learned from learning as much as I could creating my own personal brand. Social media and branding is not just for entrepreneurs.   Where do you want to be in 5-10 years? What skills and experiences do you need to get there? Evaluate our network and do informational interviews. Where do you see yourself? What’s your next step? Current company? Different industry or company? What does your brand need to be to get you there? What got you here won’t get you there.  What do you want your resume to look like. Create  a resume for yourself in 5 years or a dream job description. Create your content: Create original content that expresses your personal brand online and on social media. Ex. LinkedIn, Twitter, Blogs, Facebook, Personal website, online resume, etc. Create a quick, simple, and memorable statement describing who you are and what you have to offer.  Pick 2-3 social platforms. Each sphere adds to your brand and personal reputation.  Should you buy your name as your domain? Medium.com. Talk ing on YouTube. LinkedIN posts if your industry is on the professional side. I would start an instagram with your food, your clothes and your knowledge of data. Mix all your favorite things together to create your brand.  Join our 3rd annual Fall in Love With Your Work and Life Challenge starting on August 14th: www.classycareergirl.com/challenge   If you dream of making a living doing something you love while making a positive impact on the world, join us for this challenge.  Create a plan of action to make your dream job and lifestyle a reality so you can be fulfilled, not bored.
