Description

http://elineugeboren.com/ (Eli Neugeboren): illustrator and educator. In this episode, I sit down with my colleague Eli, who teaches and reside in Brooklyn, NY. He has amassed over 1000 different illustrations from his ongoing project Drawing the News and is not stopping anytime soon.

"The idea of paying your dues … that’s basically what fakin’ it ‘til you make it is. That's you payin’ your dues. You say yes to everything and figure it out along the way … and, just work really hard if you want to be good.”

We discuss Eli’s trajectory from a painter to retoucher, to educator and illustrator — and his collaboration with https://whatthefuckjusthappenedtoday.com/ (WTF Just Happened Today). Also, we find out why it’s important to have a recognizable visual drawing style, how putting in the work is the key to success_(in his case anyway)_, and why working with your kids as your art directors is some of the most rewarding work you can do.

Great learning from your hard work, thanks Eli!

Works In Process, the podcast that asks the hows and whys behind the creative work. Creativity is oversaturated with the final results—Whether it be a painting, the words you write, or that elegant piece in your portfolio. We seem to find completed and beautified work across the web, but what steps did it actually take to get there? Talk a ride with me, Designer and Educator George Garrastegui, as I learn from my guests that there’s no one way to being a creative, but endless possibilities fueled by passion, purpose, and of course process. It’s not always about what you do, but how you do it!
