Description

We all see instances of what many people categorize as “fat shaming” both in conversation and on social media. What’s the real intent of these comments? Is it meant to hurt or help? Do people ever make permanent, positive behavioral changes because they have been shamed? And are fit people similar targets for shaming because they’re too focused on maintaining their appearance? It is worse for women than for men? It was great having powerlifter and coach Kelly Lenahan us for this discussion. We were not able to come to many conclusions, but we explored motivations on all sides of the issue and expressed our ideas on approaches that we feel would be more productive than shaming. We kicked off things off by trying to guess the percentage of people who have an “inner monologue.” You can find Kelly on Instagram @kelly.lenahan.
