Description

On this very special episode of Movies That Make Us, we record at Watchtower Comics and Coffee and welcome owners Cori and Mike as our guests. Cori and Mike opened Watchtower Comics and Coffee (formerly Watchtower Café) about four years ago, and it has become a staple of the nerd and geek community here in Salt Lake City. Cori and Mike are two of the coolest people we know, and they really have put together something special at Watchtower. They are currently preparing to move to a new location on Main Street with plenty of upgrades (including an area for podcasting, which we love). To do this they have turned to the community for help in raising some of the funds. You can back this Kickstarter campaign and help them reach their goal. It ends at 9 am on June 6, so please pledge today and share with all your friends. On this episode we are discussing Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. This film was released in 2004, and although it was not a mainstream hit, it has become a critical favorite and has gained a cult following over the years. It has made numerous best of the decade or century lists. It is a role that was a slight departure for Carrey, who had primarily been in comedic roles up to this point in his career. However, this has become one of his more well-known and recognizable roles.Tracy, Val, Jake, Cori and Mike discuss this film in detail. The talk about the amazing cast, how this film redefines movie romantic relationships, and some interesting theories behind the colors of Clementine’s hair. We even get a story from Cori about how she survived a run in with the Hulk. What do you think about this film? Is it one you are familiar with and you love it? Or are you with Val, and you’ve seen it, you respect it, but you wouldn’t choose to sit down and watch it? Do you have feedback on this episode or any of our episodes so far?
