I was asked by someone from Europe why they can eat pasta and pizza in their country without issues, but experience unpleasant symptoms when they eat them in the US. They get bloated and their gut feels heavy.
First of all, if you’re on keto, you shouldn’t be consuming pasta, pizza, and other grain-based products anyway. You won’t be successful. But if you do eat them, it’s because in the US (along with Canada and Great Britain) the grains are fortified with iron and B vitamins.
Here are the problems with iron: iron accumulates in your body, which can be very toxic. It’s attracted to damaged parts of your body tissue. For example, if you have high insulin, that will damage your arteries, brain, and nervous system. Iron is attracted to those areas and causes oxidative damage — like a rusting effect. Iron can also disrupt the friendly bacteria in your colon, causing a heavy feeling in your gut.
As for the B vitamins, they’re usually genetically modified, especially B2 and B12. Genetically modified foods are laced with an herbicide called glyphosate, which causes problems in your GI tract.
This is why eating pasta and pizza in the US cause health problems!
