The Context of White Supremacy hosts the seventh study session on Ralph Ellison's 1952 classic, Invisible Man. Gus T's all-time favorite book, Ellison's extraordinary novel was selected for the 1953 National Book Award and has been reviewed and praised internationally for 75 years. The narrative follows an unnamed black male as he slogs through the turmoil and terrorism of White Supremacy (Racism). Last week's session saw the main character being subjected to medical butchers, who experimented on him after he was knocked unconscious by an explosion in the paint factory. The White doctors subject him painful electrical shocks in order to change him a "new man." This unnamed new man staggers away from the factory jobless, and luckily meets a black female who's willing to nurse him back to health. Ms. Mary reminds the protagonist of his own family and Southern roots that he's left behind to chase a college education and New York fantasies.
