The Context of White Supremacy hosts the tenth study session on Ralph Ellison's 1952 superlative novel, Invisible Man. Gus T's all-time favorite book, Ellison's exemplary text was picked for the 1953 National Book Award and has been inspected and esteemed internationally for more than a half century. The book follows an unnamed black male as he grinds through the terrorism and deceit of White Supremacy (Racism). Last week's installment introduced Brother Tarp, a black member of the Brotherhood. He and the main character discuss the organization, and Brother Tarp gifts the protagonist an iron shackle - similar the cuff Dr. Bledsoe owned. Brother Tarp shares that he was incarcerated for two decades for telling a (White) man "no." Not long after hearing Brother Tarp, the protagonist is accused of trying to subvert the Brotherhood. Brother Wrestrum, also a black member, reported to the White members that the main character had sinister motives for self-aggrandizement, not universal brotherhood. The Whites decide to banish the protagonist from his Harlem office and change his assignment to "the woman question."
