The Ten Commandments of Love: Biblical Wisdom for a Fulfilling Relationship
()
About this ebook
The Ten Commandments of Love – Biblical Wisdom for a Fulfilling Relationship reveals a powerful spiritual truth: real love is not a coincidence. It follows sacred laws-laws that have guided humanity for millennia and are encoded in one of the most influential texts in human history: the Bible.
In this profound and timeless book, spiritual teacher Dr. Elias Rubenstein offers an extraordinary reinterpretation of the Ten Commandments-not as outdated religious dogmas, but as living principles for building conscious, loving, and transformative relationships. Drawing from the mystical traditions of the Western world, Rubenstein uncovers how these ancient commandments contain hidden spiritual power, practical guidance, and soul-level truths that apply to our modern relationships just as they did thousands of years ago.
This book is not theoretical. It is based on powerful lectures originally delivered to students of a living Western initiatory path. Now, for the first time, these teachings are accessible to a wider audience-offering a clear, inspiring, and uncompromising look into what it truly means to love in alignment with divine will.
This book is for you if:
- You long for more meaning and connection in your relationship.
- You are tired of repeating the same emotional patterns without change.
- You want to understand the spiritual purpose of partnership.
- You are ready to stop violating your own inner truth for the sake of external harmony
- You feel called to discover a love that is rooted in something eternal.
No religious background is required-only the courage to listen deeply and the willingness to change. These commandments do not belong to any one faith. They belong to the soul of humanity.
Love is not an accident. It is a path. A commandment. A sacred discipline.
Let this book show you the way.

Christian mysticism is a hidden tradition of the West, preserving the wisdom teachings of the Bible.
INTRODUCTION
Since most readers of this book live in the West, it’s important to highlight the key differences between the spiritual paths of the East and the West in the preface. These differences are rooted in lifestyle and cultural background. At first glance, the content of this book might seem irrelevant to someone from the East. It’s specifically written for people from the Western cultural context, focusing on the traditions of the West. When we compare the spiritual paths of East and West, the differences are clear. In the East, a spiritual person often lives in an ashram, surrounded by like-minded individuals, away from the distractions and struggles of everyday life. In the West, however, the student lives within a busy world of work, family, friends, and social commitments. In the East, vegetarianism is a requirement, whereas in the West, eating meat is part of many religious celebrations, like the Jewish Passover. There are also differences when it comes to alcohol. In the East, drinking alcohol is strictly forbidden and seen as a vice, while in the West, alcoholic beverages are even consumed during religious rituals, such as the Christian Eucharist.
One of the biggest differences is how sexuality is viewed. In the East, sexual activity is forbidden, and those on a spiritual path practice strict celibacy. In the West, however, marriage and having children are central to daily life and seen as desirable goals. Sexuality plays a significant role in this. Furthermore, in the West, sexual union is often associated with the holy day of the Sabbath. These are just a few of the visible differences. A deeper look reveals that the two paths can be seen as different stages of the sun’s journey. The sun has always been a symbol of spiritual awakening, and the term light
is closely tied to enlightenment. In the East, the sun rises, while in the West, it sets. The Eastern path is like the sunrise of the soul, while the Western path resembles the sunset.
The sunrise is different from the sunset, just as day is different from night. It’s the same sun, but the experiences are very different. At sunrise, light emerges from darkness. At sunset, light already exists before the sun sets. Western mysteries focus on life and death, which is why the mysteries of death are treated more directly.
This is especially evident in Christian mysticism, where crucifixion and resurrection are central symbols. Even in mystical traditions like the Martinists, Freemasons, and Rosicrucians, these symbols are preserved, illustrating the immortality of the soul and the divine purpose of humanity. Western tradition also involves a conscious engagement with the material world. In contrast, the East sees the material world as an illusion to escape from. In the West, the focus is on the redemption of matter, which requires a different approach.
Hermeticism can be viewed as the spiritual teaching of the West, a mystery tradition that passes down this essential knowledge. Hermeticism is about embodying the spirit and spiritualizing the body. Christian teachings speak of the incarnation of the Logos and the forgiveness of sins, which align with this idea. Today, it’s much harder to encounter Western spiritual teachings than Eastern ones.
In this book, when we discuss the commandments of love, it’s clear that these commandments specifically address the Western way of life. As mentioned earlier, the spiritual context for someone in the East is different. Therefore, both the Western and Eastern paths are clearly defined. Both paths have their place and produce their respective results.
There is a vast body of Eastern literature that has gained popularity in the West, and Eastern philosophies are widely embraced as a spiritual path or esoteric wisdom. However, this is only part of the truth. For someone in the West, it’s often difficult to find authentic Western spiritual teachings. We live in the West, and it’s easy to overlook that there is a well-established path of spirituality here, too—a path that has been tested for thousands of years.
This book, therefore, addresses the preserved wisdom of the West. It does not claim to find common ground with other religions. Rather, it serves as a guide to return to the Western roots of spirituality. While it’s easy to study Eastern teachings and methods in the West, these were originally designed for a different cultural and societal context.
Both the East and the West have sacred scriptures that form the foundation of their major religions. In the West, this includes the Bible. In the book of Exodus, we find the Ten Commandments. The prophet Moses, peace be upon him, went up Mount Sinai and received these commandments from God in a sacred conversation. The stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments were kept in the Ark of the Covenant. Moses, peace be upon him, oversaw the construction of the Ark, which became a symbol of God’s covenant with His holy people.
The Ark was a wooden chest overlaid with gold, with two cherubim resting on top. Cherubim are angels of high rank. The tablets were carried in the Ark and kept in a portable tent temple called the Tabernacle. King David, may he be blessed, brought the Ark to Mount Zion, and it was placed in the Temple of Jerusalem by King Solomon, the wise king. This temple stood on Mount Moriah.
The Ark was kept in the Holy of Holies, a sacred inner chamber of the temple, which only the high priest could enter once a year on the Day of Atonement. It was there that the holy name of God was spoken, and atonement was sought for the people of Israel. The Ten Commandments serve as guidelines for how to honor and praise God. They represent spiritual laws that illustrate the relationship between God’s glory and human beings.
From a modern perspective, these commandments may seem strict or even difficult to understand. But at their core, they represent commandments of love. Unfortunately, these principles are often misunderstood and placed within the context of specific religious groups. However, they can be compared to the physical law of cause and effect. If you strike your thumb with a hammer, it will likely hurt. The pain prevents you from repeating that action. The hammer itself is neither good nor bad, just as the thumb is not. The hammer is a useful tool, and it depends on the skill of the user how it is applied. Similarly, when you engage in certain actions, you will experience suffering. When you engage in other actions, you will inevitably experience joy.
From this perspective, the Ten Commandments are a divine gift of grace. They help minimize suffering, as long as we know them and intend to live by them. The situation is secondary; what matters is how we respond to it. Ideally, we should act proactively, rather than merely react. The Ten Commandments are a radiant revelation of the laws of the cosmos. They offer a clear path of return—a way back to the heavenly realm after the fall from the Garden of Eden.
A person is considered righteous when more than half of their actions are virtuous. The Ten Commandments consist of more than just ten simple rules. Some of them are explained in detail, while others come with many additional commentaries. These commandments represent universal laws of life that are effective in the cosmos. Similar commandments can also be found in other cultures, such as in Islam or ancient Egypt. The biblical commandments form a cohesive unit, and they are closely interconnected.
The Bible is one of the most interesting books in the Western wisdom tradition. It is a holy book, inspired by the greatest sages through divine guidance. The Bible is divided into the Old and New Testaments. Less well-known, but still extremely important, are other ancient texts like the Sefer Sohar, Sefer Yetzirah, and Sefer Bahir. These holy books contain enough material to study them for a lifetime.
Unfortunately, these texts are often available only in incomplete translations or not at all in English. The same applies to the Old Testament of the Bible, which is only available in imperfect translations. The reason for this is that the original text was written in Aramaic. In the original language, many metaphorical meanings are hidden, which can only be fully understood when read in the original.
These meanings can only
