Everest first. Physics knows its own Mt. Everest in the grand unified theory. No one as yet has climbed it, but history awaits those or the one who will do so.

Gravity is an ancient force known to ‘pull down’. For ages that is all that Man knew of it and that it somehow originated with the Earth. Preface: Physics and Gravity.
Physics is a fascinating and magical science. It is in essence the study of how Nature works, behaves, and interacts. It is a quest to find its ultimate laws and to understand its bewildering diversity. Its study takes years of schooling and is only for the most ardent of students. It requires an extensive background in mathematics, chemistry, and other sciences to fully investigate. Few are the people who achieve a doctorate in its subject. The subject itself is filled with a complexity that defies any one thinker. Today, physics is too vast of science for anyone person. It is always changing with new ideas appearing all the time.
Today, physics is in an age of intense change and momentous events. Physicists worldwide are exploring all kinds of frontiers in the science. Issues range from superconductivity to quantum gravity with new developments appearing all the time. No one knows what tomorrow holds with this subject, but it is sure to be momentous as it was for thinkers before who conceived the quantum and relativity.
Physics had its origin in ancient times when primitive men began asking questions about how the world works. He did not have any answers, but took to contriving fables and fantasies and passing them off as explanation
to his fellow tribesmen. From then on, various thinkers have come and gone who have advanced Man out of superstition into the light
of today’s age of physics. As of now, today’s physics represents a collective achievement of so many thinkers who have contributed something here and there to help men understand the world in which he lives.
Physics represents a kind of modern sorcery. As ancient wizards
sought the use of magic to control elemental forces, today’s physicists wield similar power, but call their magic
electricity, gravity, nuclear power, and natural forces. Although physics has long shed its connotations with magic, it is today a thriving and professional discipline of science exploring how the universe works.
In this book, we will explore physics and the nature of a force called gravity. For ages, men have been perplexed by gravity, its pulling, and so much more about it. However the modern scientist recognizes gravity as being a fundamental force of Nature. Today, many thinkers labor to try to understand gravity for all its secrets. While all its secrets are not known, it nevertheless holds a grip on physicists for its effect, its mystery, and the role it has played in physics history. For now, let us explore the nature of gravity, Nature’s most mysterious force.

Introduction: Einstein’s Dream (The Passion of Einstein).
Albert Einstein, the legendary thinker and titan of 20th century physics had a curious and profound dream he bequeathed to physics. He dreamt that the universe obeyed a single master theory of physics with its own set of fundamental equations. This theory would have a single master equation, a basic principle, the ability to derive mathematically any other physics theory, and an explanation
for Nature’s laws and diversity. He sought to find this theory and spent years fruitlessly searching. However, he had a deep and abiding confidence bordering on physics faith that this theory did exist. However, he died in 1955 failing to achieve this one last service to physics.
This mythical physics theory Einstein so feverishly believed existed is today called by many names. Examples are the master theory, the super theory, the grand unified theory, the one theory, the master theory, the fundamental theory, the unified theory, the unified field theory, the God theory, the theory of everything, the theory of the universe, and last but not least the theory of the universe. Its existence is a kind of fantasy in physics, a dreamy thing many believe exists, but no one can prove
exists.
Today, physicists the world over are searching for this theory, the grand unified theory. It is the passion of thousands of thinkers who labor to solve the mystery that even the great Einstein could not solve. It represents in some sense physics’ equivalent to the Holy Grail, a magical treasure waiting for some hero to stumble upon. As of now, its issue is discussed in all kinds of places ranging from colleges to corporations. As of yet no one has found it and it is quite possible it does not exist. However, this does not stop the worldwide ‘army’ of researchers, hobbyists, and physicists from trying to find it.
For the time being, the quest to find the grand unified theory represents a kind of scientific treasure hunt. Its prize is none other than the discovery of the basic laws of the universe and insight into why Nature is what she is. The journey to find this theory goes on and nobody knows how it will end nor with whom. It represents an achievement that may forever remain unsolved and if that is so, represents a kind of futility that scientists for ages will dwell upon. However this adventure finishes, it represents in some sense a last, great, and ultimate fantasy journey to end the journey begun by our primitive ancestors ages ago. For now, the grand unified theory remains just a fantasy, somewhere in the netherworld of the unknown of science waiting for its champion to find this prize.
To whosoever solves this greatest of physics mysteries, a special place in the science of physics will go. Such a person will join the ranks of Newton and Einstein as some of physics’ greatest thinkers. Nobody knows who will live this future chapter of physics, but it is sure to be one of the great stories of history and perhaps the greatest story of physics history.
In order to solve this problem though, the physicist should have an understanding of gravity and that is what the remainder of this book will be about.

This book is meant to be a discussion on science, physics, and today’s quest to understand gravity. This book is divided into the following sections with their discussions:
-The world of science. This chapter is given for the reader to have a basic familiarity with science. It will discuss the scientific method and related issues.
-The world of physics. This chapter is given for the reader to have a basic familiarity with physics.
-Discussion of concepts. Physics requires an education on some very basic concepts to more ably understand the subject. Physics discusses seven basic ideas in mass, energy, mass-energy, space, time, spacetime, and mind to more accurately understand.
-Discussion on forces. Physics presently knows four (of three or five) fundamental forces and other issues, brief discussions on them are given for the reader. They are called by the names of gravity, electromagnetism, the nuclear forces, and the electroweak force. An understanding of them is vital to an overall study of physics.
-Discussion on gravity and its details.
-Discussion on an issue of gravity.
-Concluding statements.
Science is about understanding Nature better than superstition. People of science see the world through effects, natural laws, equations, order, and phenomena. People of superstition see the world as actions of spirits, magic, the gods, demons, angels, and myths. Human history has known both kinds of people, but it is known people of science understand the world better than people of superstition. It is the duty of a scientist to identify superstition and eliminate it from science.

Science is a grand drama of Man. It began ages ago with primitive men asking simple questions about Nature. In time, it became intertwined with superstition and has stayed that way for ages. Since then, it has changed and evolved studying and dissecting Nature’s myriad features. It has grown into various branches called physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology, geology, and so on. It has gone through ages of monumental achievement in time contributing to the creation of today’s science world. In this era, the 20th to 21st centuries, Man can travel in space, communicate over vast distances, blow up the world, and do acts that would be miracles to ancient men. But also so, he is trying to understand how Nature operates at its most fundamental level. For the time being, he does not have this understanding, but his resolve continues to search for it however. In this book, we will explore Man’s quest from his beginnings to now for ‘true understanding’ of gravity. However in order to begin to understand this journey through time, we must first begin with discussions to familiarize the reader with what science and the science journey is. We start our adventure through science now with a discourse on what science is. We begin with our first discourse, the modern world of science itself.
Who knows what secrets lurk in Nature still. Science found the atomic bomb, the law of gravity, superconductors, and natural forces. What more is there still to find?

The World of Science
Science is a curious word. It refers to a vast body of subjects that seek to study the various aspects of Nature. Aspects of Nature are the following: heat, light, life, intelligence, society, Man, animals, plants, stars, atoms, and so much more. For each subject there is an appropriate science. Examples are botany for plants and optics for light. Science is about learning knowledge, knowledge about a subject. The scientist wants to know the rules of the subjects, analyzes its behavior, and creates theories to describe its behavior. As more knowledge is discovered about a subject, the knowledge of science grows. Science is taught worldwide and is essential to modern civilization. It comes in many branches and one of them is called physics. In this book, we will explore the science of physics and try to lay the foundation for the discussion on the grand unified theory to come.
What is Science?
Science is a system for investigating something about Nature, a means to learn about a natural quality by the use of reason, thinking, investigation, experiment, and other tools. It attempts to understand a natural quality with intelligence and tools.

Before Science
Before modern science evolved into existence, science-like thinking was practiced for centuries. As to who was the first to ask questions about the universe or formulate the first explanation
for Nature, nobody will ever know. However, he or she began the journey of Man at trying to invent that later subject known as science. In ancient times, people believed in all sorts of things. Examples are the gods, magic, potions, sorcery, witchcraft, astrology, alchemy, and a whole host of other issues. Beliefs in such things passed for understanding
of how Nature worked and in some sense represented Man’s views of science
for countless ages. Primitive men believed that natural forces were controlled by capricious, powerful entities called the gods. The gods were described as superhuman
possessing great knowledge and power and being somehow above Man. Men took to worshiping the gods and dedicated many temples and religions to them. Whole civilizations were founded to honor the gods and draw inspiration from their
guidance. In time, various thinkers would come who would question the beliefs in the gods. In time, this began the historical trend of disbelieving in the gods and the erosion of superstitious beliefs about Nature. Later on, thinkers like Newton, Copernicus, and Galileo would work to found the Scientific Revolution and cause Man’s break with superstition in trying to understand how Nature worked. Science in some way had its beginning in people who thought superstition was nonsense and was not capable of explaining the natural world.

Science had its origins in such things as idle curiosity on natural things, experimenting with natural features like fire and rocks, and inventing stories to explain
natural things. This has spawned movements among primitive men that can be called superstition. Such things like beliefs in magic, ceremonies, rituals to appease the gods, incantations, and the making of potions all illustrate this activity. These practices continued for ages being believed in by countless societies. Even now, such practices survive in more primitive parts of the world. However its from these practices that science would evolve and change the world later on.

The ancients believed that the world was made from magic, that spirits and gods existed, and that the world was filled with all manner of supernatural creature and thing. Out of an environment like this, beliefs would arise that would become the first natural beliefs

Science Arises From Superstition
Many sciences are known to have originated in ancient superstitious practices. Many examples known to history are the following:
-Alchemy gives birth to chemistry.
-Astrology leads to astronomy.
-Physics arises from natural philosophy, Aristotelian thinking, and Greek ideas.
-Medicine arises from shamanistic practices of herbalism and medicinal treatment.
-Geometry arises from Pythagoreanism and the mystical reverence for shapes.
-Biology arises from shamanistic practices into life.
-Numerology, primitive counting, and reverence for shapes would lead to mathematics.
-Ancient Earth cults would give rise to geology.
