    Overview

Blind Rage recounts the harrowing tale of Linda Park Martin, who, in a moment of overwhelming emotion, murders her mother, Ruie Ann Park. The narrative unfolds with Ruie Ann's meticulous grooming routine before her violent death, and the subsequent discovery of her body by her son, Sam Hugh Park. The investigation into Ruie Ann's murder initially focuses on Sam Hugh, whose lifestyle and strained relationship with his mother cast suspicion on him. However, Sam Hugh's untimely death shifts the focus to Linda, who is eventually betrayed by her husband, Howard Martin. Howard's manipulation leads to Linda's arrest and her emotional breakdown. Despite community support and doubts about her guilt, Linda is coerced into a plea deal, resulting in a twenty-year prison sentence. The story delves into the complex family dynamics, societal prejudices, and the tragic unraveling of Linda's life, culminating in her reluctant acceptance of her fate and the hope of parole for the sake of her children.

    Crimson Refrain

Ruie Ann Park gazed into the mirror, her hair meticulously set in thirty pin curls, each held in place by bobby pins. Her chest was marked with angry red spots. She hastily donned her pink robe, channeling Joan Crawford in The Damned Don’t Cry, convinced of her resemblance to the actress. Seated on the guest bed, her arms folded in expectation of an apology, Ruie Ann was instead met with a violent assault. Her head and temple bore the brunt of ten forceful strikes. In a desperate attempt to defend herself, she screamed and fought back, her hands sustaining injuries as blood smeared her face. Dragged across the floor, she left a crimson trail in her wake, dislodging books from a shelf. As something was thrown over her, the sound of a door closing was the last thing she heard.

The 75-year-old widow, severely injured, was unaware of the gravity of her wounds. Blood was everywhere; her head throbbed with pain, and she was unable to move it. Thirsty and desperate for water, she eventually succumbed to unconsciousness, her final thoughts fixated on how to remove the bloodstains from her Van Buren, Arkansas home.

On a sunny Sunday morning, Sam Hugh Park awoke late, nursing a hangover. He clumsily reached for vodka in the fridge, seeking relief. His attempts to rouse his sleeping companion, Santos, were futile. After heating up some coffee, he stepped outside, noticing a stain on his sweater and his mother's newspaper still lying uncollected. Talking to himself had become a habit since he lost his job as a young U.S. prosecuting attorney. Now, he resided in a rental property owned by his mother, maintaining a law practice with just enough clients to employ a secretary.

Santos, who lived with Sam Hugh rent-free and enjoyed access to beer and drugs, inquired about any plans for the day. After a brief exchange, Santos departed for a horseback ride. Sam Hugh, reflecting on a recent phone call with his mother regarding her book research and their disagreement over his lifestyle, decided to retrieve her newspaper. Inside her chillingly cold house, he discovered her lifeless body on the floor, covered with a quilt, her head bloodied. In a state of panic, he called the police and waited outside, overcome with emotion.
