Lyiana lay on her back, legs crossed, looking as amazed as ever at the universe stretching endlessly around her. A fleeting thought crossed her mind, a memory from her time at Kogaion Academy, which made her smile: Although there is an end somewhere, the universe is infinite.
She had never understood the motto until after graduation, when she went into space for the first time by herself, with the ship Old Tear
and the AI system – Enrose. Then, on her first outing, filled with emotions, constantly wondering if her choice had been the right one, Enrose’s voice echoed all around her: There is a protocol regarding what I should tell you first. Explanations, some stories, small standard attention grabbers, more or less subtle. But I will skip them. We will have time for that too. Now I recommend you close your eyes and reopen them when I tell you. Ok?
She quickly got over the surprise and chose a simple Of course
. A few seconds later came the prompt.
She found herself literally suspended in space. She controlled the strong sense of panic that set in abruptly. Always, beyond her searches for which most considered her not quite sane, she had a very present practical side. One that allowed her to constantly anchor herself in the present. From those depths of hers came several thoughts to her aid: If you were really in space, you would have already frozen,
You breathe the same air, nothing has actually changed,
Your body feels the same chair.
So she calmed down almost immediately. Then she thought to ask her assistant what had happened. She stopped. Smiled. Probably that’s exactly what the ship’s entity was waiting for from her. It wanted to study her, to see if she lost her composure. She had heard stories
