Chapter 1: A call to the Meadow view
It was hot, and the sun was scourging every living thing found under it.
John Stembridge was among the living things, and he was walking in the middle of the road. He was heading back from his favourite place in the world to see the medium.
He always likes to prove that there is no ghost because he does not believe in their existence. And once again, he has tried to prove to the mediums that ghost does not exist.
He is a man with raven black hair and a black pair of pupils that match his hair color.
John had lost his wife and sister shortly after the war, and he had been living alone in Ireland since then.
After a few more walks, he got home and settled down on one of his chairs in his residence. The chairs are covered with embroidered antimacassars, which his late wife had used to protect the chairs from being ruined.
There was a grand piano by the left part of the room. The keys of the piano came from ivory. His late wife played every evening before her demise.
He loved listening to her enchanting voice and watched her long beautiful fingers play on the piano while he sat down to a bottle of beer to cool the day’s stress off.
A portrait of both of them hung high on the wall beside the fireplace. It was a gift they both received from an artist during their wedding day. It looked better than it does now. It is now covered in dust.
The portrait was not the only thing covered in dust but every other part of the house too.
He looked at the fireplace, which has not seen a piece of firewood since his wife passed away a year ago and made a mental note to dust it out and make use of it again when winter comes.
The phone beside him rang, bringing him out of his thoughts.
He stretched his arms effortlessly to pick the receiver.
Hello,
he said into the phone but got a dead silence at the other end.
Hello, who is calling?
he asked again and heard static sounds. He made to drop the call when the voice stopped him.
Hello, this is butler Mike from Meadow’s view,
Mike said from the other end.
Please, your presence is desperately needed over here to convince the maid that ghosts do not exist.
She is acting mad and believes that she sees ghosts at the mansion. The voice at the other end said.
Stembridge was excited; it is another opportunity given to him to prove that ghosts do not exist. He would earn more ground and convince more people that spirits are born out of fantasies and do not live for real.
I will come over, of course, he said, getting to his feet grinning widely. I will take the night train and get there by morning.
The mansion was famous in the country, and it is located in the next town. It is a twelve hours journey from his town to the city.
Oh, thank you, Mr. Stembridge. A young lady will pick you upon your arrival. Her name is Natalie. She has dark hair, and she is petite.
Mark said, giving him the perfect description.
Alright, Mr. Mike. I’ll be there by morning.
He said.
We expect your presence, sir,
Mike concluded and ended the call.
John sighed happily and placed the receiver back on the phone. His eyes fell on the fireplace. You will have to wait till I’m back,
he said and walked into the room.
He opened the curtain to allow air in and walked over to the wardrobe.
He
