Introduction

This is a continuation of Shelter in the Night, which I started in July of 2020 due to a painful shoulder. During those months of pain, I was often up in the wee hours of many sleepless nights reading my Bible. I found myself pouring out my frustration and praise through what started out as lamentations and then ended in praise.

At first, I called them LoRee’s modern-day psalms, not realizing they are a form of poetry. Written with joy, songs, and tears, all point to adoration of the Lord God who calls me His daughter. Ever trusting, though my frailty drifted to the surface, my Lord had control and all turned out well, to His glory.

PSALM 8:1

Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.

I WHISPER YOUR NAME

I whisper Your Name

Your Name soothes my heart

There’s power in Your Name

Your Name is a balm

Your Name is majestic

Worthy of the highest praise

Majesty, I sing Your Name

Majesty, I worship Your Name

Lord, oh Lord, I call

I magnify Your Name

A whisper becomes a shout

A shout of musical rejoicing

You set music in my soul

How majestic is Your Name.

PSALM 42:8

By day the Lord directs His love, at night His song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life.

HOPE IS MY SAVIOR AND GOD

My heart and mind

Are so full of the life

You gave me, oh God

I’m not downhearted

But have despaired

Been discouraged and depressed

Thirsty for living water

In darkness of night

A song replaces sadness

His lovingkindness

Uplifts me in daylight

He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

MY COVER, MY REFUGE

Moonlit dreams aren’t

Always romantic ones

I have the propensity

To look ahead of today

My beloved has failing eyesight

What if he can no longer drive?

Thoughts thunder like the tide

Shield my mind with Your wings

You are my powerful God

Master of the universe

Ever-present in the past

Evermore in my future

Your grace washes over me

Like a waterfall reflecting rainbow.
