I love writing in a variety of genres. I currently have over 300 books published in all lengths from full 500+ page novels down to short stories. I love writing series. Some are with unconnected characters, like the 14 full-length medieval novels with a sword being passed from heroine to heroine. Some have connected characters, like the 31 mini-mysteries featuring a detective in Salem, Massachusetts. All of my books are written "clean" with no explicit intimacy, no harsh language, and no explicit violence. All are suitable for teens and up. Mermaids!

"Art washes away from the soul

    the dust of everyday life."

    —Pablo Picasso

Mermaids, fish-people, and merfolk have been celebrated in nearly every culture and era of history! With lakes, rivers, and oceans being so critical to our lives, it’s no wonder we imagine a world where creatures similar to us live, laugh, and play just beneath the water’s surface.

This inspirational companion book is designed to encourage you to create thirty-one days of drawings, illustrations, and interpretations of mermaids. Whether your style is anime or realistic, steampunk or goth, Disney cartoon or renaissance, the process of working on a technique for thirty-one days will help you refine your own unique approach.

This book contains mermaid stories, histories, inspirational art, and much, much more. This book is a celebration of all things mermaid, to go along with your artistic efforts!

Your mermaids can be any shape and shape you want. Want lush, curvy mermaids? That’s great! How about mermaids with green or purple skin? Or merfolk with sharp, pointy teeth? Go for it! Your mermaids, mermen, and merfolk are creations of your very own unique world.

It’s wholly fine and expected if your 31 days are not sequential! Life happens. Maybe you get busy, or you sprain your wrist, or you misplace the book. It’s not about drawing art every single calendar day. It’s about making progress, however that progress ends up looking in your world. Treasure each day and the opportunities it presents to you.

    Set Yourself Up For Success

As an artist, I know how hard it can be sometimes to make time for your art. The rest of life doesn’t seem to care if you really want to work on your art projects. Sometimes it’s your own energy levels which interfere. You are just so worn out that you can’t bring yourself to work on something involving focus or creativity.

As with anything else in life, set yourself up for success as best you can. Gather up your chosen types of tools for making art – whether it’s mechanical pencils, charcoal, markers, colored pencil, or other items. Keep them together with this book. Find a place that you’ll always put them. If it helps, maybe get a bag or old pillowcase so you can keep everything together. That way, when the mood strikes you, you know exactly where to go to get your supplies and you know that everything is right there.

If you can, create a routine. Maybe you can sketch every morning while having breakfast or riding the bus. Maybe for you it’s easier to do it every evening as a wind-down activity before bed. Try different times of day to see
