About this ebook

Every story I have written in this book is true. Every action by God I have recorded happened. And it is faith in the Father, His Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit that moved the Lord. Jesus taught that faith the size of a mustard seed would bring miraculous answers to prayers. And the more one reads the Bible and hears the Word of God preached and taught, the stronger that faith becomes. The answers to prayers and the victories they brought that are recorded in this small book are a reminder to all that victories in the lives of countless numbers of people will continue as long as strong faith in our unchangeable God and His written word resides in the hearts of believers.

"And this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith." 1 John 5:4(b)

    Victory—What Is It?

As a young Christian, I attended a Pentecostal church that was much like the New Testament churches in the Book of Acts. The sermons seemed to come directly from heaven. My relationship with Jesus Christ grew to be more personal and real because the Bible came alive and opened up to me as never before. I witnessed the salvations, sanctifications, and baptisms in the Holy Spirit of many people. Miracles were commonplace as they were expected when needed because faith was strong in the hearts of those in the congregation. People were healed of incurable diseases and delivered from all sins, right relationships were restored, and other seemingly impossible needs were met. The most Holy Communion service I have ever experienced took place in that church.

While in such an amazing atmosphere, there was one thing I did not fully understand. Every time the Lord blessed or touched any person, someone would always comment, Do you have the victory? or Praise the Lord! You've got the victory! I knew the definition of the word victory, but it never fit what the person was speaking of, as true victory, whether spiritual or secular, is never obtained without conflict of some kind. This caused me to continually ask the Lord, What is victory? God heard my heart's cry, and it was not long before I began to discover that faith holds the key to all victory.

The significance of victory was reinforced in my own life a few years ago. In 2012, I had a high blood pressure hemorrhage, and the doctors could not get my blood pressure stabilized. During the course of my illness, I was also facing a difficult family situation. Each time I became involved with the circumstances surrounding me, I ended up in the ER. A doctor finally told me that because of the seriousness of my illness, I would be dead in four weeks if I did not back off and stay away from all people and places pertaining to my distress. After I returned from the hospital for the sixth time, the Holy Spirit spoke to me, Ye need not fight in this battle, for the battle is not yours but God's. From that moment on, I stepped back and watched the Lord literally take over and settle it all His way. By faith, I had great peace in knowing God was taking care of me, and victory was mine!

True spiritual victory is profound. Yet, it is simple and easy to understand in the midst of our storms because our strong faith is activated. Whatever the need during trials, victory is there for the taking because God's Word teaches us that victory is joy in the midst of sorrow, love in the midst of hatred, peace during the most turbulent storm or trial, and faith in the midst of darkness when no light can be seen nor has any way of escape been made known unto us. It is temperance when all around gives the impression of being out of control, kindness and meekness when cruelty appears on every hand, and humility when all our needs are abundantly supplied and we are wanting for nothing. It is goodness when evil appears to triumph. Victory is endurance when our bodies are wracked with pain and disease, and after much prayer, fasting, and Bible study, we do as the Bible teaches—trust God and wait!

Victory is long-suffering when our prayers seem to go unanswered, problems grow larger, and friends and loved ones do not understand us. It is the ability to stand still and remain steadfast, even though we have an almost overwhelming desire to run. It becomes like glue in that it will cause us to stay in our hard circumstances when all within us yearns to flee to greener pastures or an easier work. It is not giving in nor giving up, but keeping on while at the same time our desire to live has taken flight. It is the courage to face those who oppose us—persons who have said or done unkind things that hurt—and have no ill feeling in our hearts toward them.

Finally, victory is when we can be as Paul, who, in spite of the Holy Spirit's warning to him about the bonds and afflictions awaiting in Jerusalem, was determined to go, stating, None of these things move me (Acts 20:24). Whatever the conflict—and in spite of it—with a strong unwavering faith in our hearts toward God, we too can stand firm and persevere in severe trials while declaring, None of these things move me.

[A]nd this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith (1 John 5:4b).

God Will Not Do Anything That Is Not Necessary

After I began attending a Pentecostal church and hearing the pastor preach and teach about divine healing, my faith grew stronger and my heart was filled with new hope. The knowledge that Jesus provided healing for all in the atonement when He suffered stripes upon His back was new and exciting to me. I was already so grateful to Him for saving my soul and healing me spiritually, and now I learned He also made provision for physical healing. I thanked God! Soon after I heard and believed in the miracle of divine healing, my dad became so ill that medical science could not help him. What I had just been taught about divine healing was implanted in my heart and mind so deeply that I turned to God for help.

Before my parents became Christians, they relied heavily on home remedies when they were sick. My dad usually diagnosed his own illnesses, even though family members would encourage him to see a doctor. We usually paid close attention to his ailments because for years he had a stomach ulcer that needed special attention. But one winter day, he started feeling bad, and not one of us was aware the ulcer was the cause. His determination to use home remedies almost cost him his life.

My dad was a construction worker, and almost every job he was hired to do was outside, regardless of the weather. During the winter,
