About the Author
Chapter 1
"I
f I am not mistaken, you are Mr Ronobir Sanyal, right?" We were at Amar Kutir, a well-known handicrafts shop at Ballavpur in Santiniketan. A gentleman of around forty years made the query.
At the outset, I must clarify the word ‘we’. We three (Ronuda or Ronobir Sanyal,Neelkanta babu and me) were on a weekend trip to Santiniketan, Bolpur. Ronuda, my maternal uncle’s son of around thirty-five years, was always a brilliant student and studied journalism at the Calcutta University. However, post studies, he never worked full time; rather turned into a freelance columnist with various newspapers in English and Bengali. It has been since 2016 when Ronuda consciously started focusing more on his one-time hobby or passion of being a detective and within less than two years developed so much flair in his work that many from the police and investigation department resorted to taking his aid in solving various puzzling cases.
I am Subho or Subhojit Kanjilal. I am seventeenyears old, in my first year at Scottish Church College, Kolkata and studying English literature. I have always been fond of detective novels and when I learnt about Ronuda’s initial assignments as a private investigator, I expressed my desire to be his sidekick. Ronuda was more than happy to have me as a mentally stimulating companion but then he made me promise that I should never be compromising with my studies for the sake of giving him company on his adventures.
Neelkanta Babu or Neelkanta Majumdar was a Professor of Human Psychology at Kalyani University. He was a voluntary bachelor and was happy with the way he led his life. At fifty, Neelkanta Majumdar left his teaching career and turned into an author of English fiction. His very first book turned into an Amazon bestseller and then there was no looking back. Neelkanta babu became Ronuda’s admirer through his newspaper columns which triggered their frequent interactions. Later, as Ronuda turned into a professional detective, Neelkanta babu expressed his desire to be a part of his missions since he always longed for excitement and adventure in life which was sadly missing in his profession.
Okay so that should be enough about the three of us and now let me come to why we were at Bolpur and why was the query made in the first place. Ronuda had solved two back-to-back mysteries at Goplaganj and Meerut and he badly needed a break. I too had
