Mr Claude and I

I was born and raised in Kuruman, a small town in the heart of South Africa’s biggest province. The Northern Cape is also the least populated province - there are huge swathes of empty land. You can drive from one town to the next, and for a hundred kilometres see nothing but veld.

I’ve lived in Pretoria since 2007, but you can never take the dorpsmeisie out of me. I have great memories of my time in Kuruman.

Most people know the town because of the Eye of Kuruman, its famous natural spring delivering up to 30 million litres of water daily. This water supplies Kuruman’s domestic needs and also feeds the Kuruman River and
