    The Trolley Bag

    I

t was the year 1996. I remember getting up so early so I could catch the flag ceremony. I just live across the elementary school where I spent the next six years of my life learning how to read, write and count, and everything in between. I carry a huge backpack to school filled with books plus notebooks. It’s quite a walk from home for me. I can feel the weight of my backpack on my skinny shoulders. I have already asked my mother if she could buy me the latest and hottest bag of the year, the trolley bag. It was everything I have hoped for. I have seen so many students at school having one. It has tons of advantages compared to traditional backpacks. For instance, you don’t have to carry it at all! You just need to pull it backward or forwards. You simply need to navigate it where you wish to go. It’s like some luggage for your airport trips. It was very convenient, so I need one. I won’t have to carry my heavy backpack anymore.

We spend most of our time reading, writing, counting, and reciting at school. Time flies when we are reading. We listen to our teacher intently because she does most of the talking. Hence, I always try to keep my attention so I would not miss a single detail. After that, he/she would ask the students to get a piece of paper for a surprise quiz which isn’t surprising at all because most teachers do it every day for the rest of the school year. Then again, you’re still surprised though. We got used to having quizzes almost every day. There were tons of assignments every day for the rest of the week which ranges from homework, home delight, or simply assignment so you don’t have to get fed up hearing about it. We don’t mind because it has kept us busy after school.

Recess time is the best time though and the most favorite subject of everyone I knew. When the bell rings, the hallway would be filled with screaming kids all going to the canteen. The entire cafeteria will turn into a huge market filled with noisy buyers and shouting sellers. Recess time is when you can eat, play, or do the same. Students pile
