    About The Author

    Inspiration For The Title

My husband and I sat in the backyard, enjoying simple conversation in the shade so the sun wouldn’t toast our skin. It was a calm day with hardly any breeze, and we watched the birds fly down to Harley’s plate, pecking at pieces of her dog food. She never budged or chased them away. She just sat faithfully by her master and cherished his company. Then, I revealed to my husband, I was thinking of a title for another book of poetry, Everything Jesus. I paused, expecting a word or sign of approval, then continued hesitantly, It’s just a thought. Immediately, a gust of wind came out of nowhere and blew vigorously as the trees swayed with majesty. I think God agrees with that title," my husband said in amazement. We were both in awe, and I knew God was already pleased with what was to come from my writing project.

A few months later, I ventured out into the desert, traveling dusty roads in record-high temperatures where it was certain a sky full of stars would be visible as night fell. Underneath the starry skies was my favorite place to be when pouring out my heart to God, especially with a backdrop of tall trees and, in rare instances like this one, mountains. This journey couldn’t have happened at a better time. The stings of despondency had taken sharp stabs at me while the weight on my shoulders became heavier. Being out in the middle of this beautiful nowhere gave me an encouraging vision of Jesus’ journey through the wilderness, where He fought and conquered the enemy’s temptations. I was bound to find peace and defeat my inner demons; I just had to endure and count it all joy.

There were many signs of God’s presence, like the large sign board that read- With God All Things Are Possible. But it was up on that high rock, with a display of thousands of stars that I could feel Him. The wind blew strongly. It was a peaceful familiarity of God speaking in a powerful tone, reminding me that every part of my journey was perfectly aligned with His will. There was also a small bush that reminded me of the one God spoke through to Moses, except it wasn’t on fire. Yet, I could feel the passion burning in my heart from God’s voice echoing through the wind, and the stars that zipped through the sky.

I felt like I could touch those flattering diamonds that decorated the night as I gazed into the sparkle of God’s eyes. After wrapping up this blissful adventure, I arrived home refreshed and ready to complete the work I had left undone. He reignited the light that dimmed from my tears and put a spark of life into every page I had written.

I decided to use a picture of clouds I had taken earlier in the year for my cover. It was a fun day with my husband and youngest child enjoying a pizza date in Brenham, TX. We ran inside the restaurant laughing off the rain as it tenderly beat down upon us. When we left, the gray clouds began to roll away and my husband said it looked like the windows of heaven had opened, replacing the rain with showers of blessing.

I lived in Brenham with my parents and siblings for a year and a half during middle school. I encountered God’s presence many times as a child, but it was this small town where, at 13 years old, God spoke to me for the first time through a newly released song called The Promise by When in Rome. It was also the age that I started journaling, writing to God, and exploring my poetic side. The words that rang through the speakers of my portable stereo that day were the inspiration that got me through my trying teen years and beyond.

    If you need a friend

    Don't look to a stranger

    You know in the end

    I'll always be there

    And when you're in doubt

    And when you're in danger

    Take a look all around

    And I'll be there...

I promise you, I promise you, I will

    Since then, He’s never ceased
