About this ebook

Humans and cats have lived side by side for centuries. Unfortunately, people don't always understand their pets, so problems arise in the "relationship". A pet's "bad" behaviour is just an attempt to communicate something to you, and if the cat is using its more sophisticated methods, it simply doesn't know how else to draw your attention to the problem. The book tells you about the true nature and needs of a domestic predator and helps you to establish communication between the cat and its human.

    How to choose a kitten

Perhaps you have already decided that you can no longer live without a cat. You urgently need a fluffy bandit who will bring joy and a new level of responsibility into your life. A cat is a self-sufficient animal, but it likes to be taken care of; It will not miss the opportunity to sit down on a person's neck and hang up. Therefore, it is worth preparing for the appearance of the four-legged robber. At a minimum, buy feed, bowls, stuffing, litter box and scratching post. It would seem, why does a three-hundred-gram-heavy kitten need so much stuff? The fact is that the animal will not cope with the need to whine in the toilet and sit at the table, asking for tools to cut the cutlet. The cat, although small, but he must have personal belongings in order to live a decent life in the house. In addition, these animals like it when something belongs to them alone. To some extent, cats are egocentric owners who do not like to be used by someone else.

When the decision is made and you have told yourself soon there will be a cat in my life, it is worth thinking about choosing a breed. Cats are very diverse in their temperament: there are less active, there are more. Some cannot exist alone in a secluded space, and someone, on the contrary, does not like company. When choosing a kitten, rely on your temperament and family lifestyle. If you are active and have children, kittens of the same temperamental breed will most likely suit you: Siamese, Abyssinians, Bengali. These are real motors without brakes, which and dead will take off if necessary. If your family is calm and quiet, or maybe you live alone and your favorite hobby is sleeping on the couch, then the above varieties are unlikely to be suitable, since their hyperactivity will tire you out. They require a lot of attention, so sitting in a chair, stretching your legs in your favorite slippers, will not suit you. At such a lifestyle, we would recommend quieter breeds, the activity of which is not so pronounced: the British, exots and Persus. These cats will not wander through the ceiling and hide along the walls, but this does not mean that they sleep on pillows all day and do not move their paws. The task of the cat's owner is to create a harmonious structure in which everyone involved is satisfied.

Let's talk about what you should pay attention to when buying a kitten. We strongly recommend that you visit the house where your future pet lives in order to figure out those things that will later help you make the right choice. First of all, pay attention to the environment in which the kitten is kept. Cleanliness is the key to health, your future pet must live in good conditions. When entering the room where kittens are kept, one should not hear a sour odor, the source of which is most often diarrhea. If animals are kept in groups, the infection spreads rather quickly. If you feel such a smell or see that the whole herd sneezes and literally sneezes on its paws, be vigilant. Picking up a kitten from such a place, you will have to take care of its treatment in any case.

If possible, it would be good to look at the kitten's parents. Seeing them, you will be able to understand how the kitten will grow up: its behavior, approximate size and breed characteristics.

It is very important to assess the conditions in which animals are kept. You should be upset if you see that kittens are sitting in a cage and communicating only with brothers, sisters and mom. Basically, in such circumstances, they are left to themselves. It is very important that babies from birth are socialized with people who take care of them, because it is during this period, from four to eight weeks of age, that the foundations of the cat's future relationship with people are laid. It is not enough just to clean the litter box and fill the bowls with food, with the kitten you need to play, iron and praise, treat him like a small child. Only in this case, a home manipulator will grow out of a cute kitten, who likes to sit on his hands. If a person pays little attention to babies, this will lead to the fact that the animal in the future will poorly survive contact with people and, most likely, will turn into an unfriendly introvert who is attached to his person, does not love human society, and any caress will cause him indescribable horror on the verge of aggression. Therefore, pay attention to how closely your future pet communicates with the person in whom he lives.

Also pay attention to what they feed the animals with. The health of the kitten is determined and thanks to the diet. If the seller tells you: We feed them Wiskas and they eat, you should doubt, because with such a diet do not expect the animal to grow up healthy and strong.

Suppose you are satisfied with the room where kittens are kept: there are no strong odors, the animals are calm and happy, they eat good feed and are active. You need to look at the litter and find a kitten that will meet the following criteria: the baby must be active, sociable, play with brothers and sisters, not be afraid of strangers; his fur coat should be shiny, and in no case should the tummy look bloated; eyes should be clean, without secretions. Look under the tail, the kitten's stern should be clean, with no signs of diarrhea. Of all, it is desirable to choose the most active and positive friend with whom you will live his whole life, and this is usually 17-20 years. In any case, when choosing a kitten, listen to your heart. It often happens that when you meet each other with a glance, from the first minutes you realize that it is he who will manipulate you all his life.

The first day in the house

Yes! The torment of choice is over, and soon you will have a beautiful four-legged boy who will take a place in your heart and become the main one in the house. As a rule, the adaptation of a kitten to a new place takes three days, this is an exciting time for everyone. For an animal - because of moving to an unfamiliar territory, and for a person - because he has a sea of additional responsibilities. The kitten's behavior in the dwelling will be formed mainly based on his instincts, and skills and ostentatiousness will appear gradually.

When the carrier with the kitten is brought into the house, the first thing to do is to place it in a secluded place. Do not pull out the animal with power, show him your rooms and tell him where the toilet is, where the kitchen is and where you can watch the news on the First Channel. Your task is to provide the pet with silence and tranquility so that he adapts to the new living conditions as soon as possible. To do this, equip him with a small room or a quiet place. If you have a studio apartment, place the conveyor, for example, in the kitchen and open the door. When the kitten feels safe, he himself will come out to explore the territory. For some kittens, this will take a little time, and they will almost immediately leave the carriage box to explore their new home, sniffing around and proudly raising their tails. Other kittens may be more shy and will take longer to adapt. Such kittens do not immediately leave the carrier, they prefer to sit inside and make sure that they are safe.

Next to the porter, place bowls with feed and water, and in another corner - a tray with filling. All the provision of a kitten's life should be located on one perimeter. And most importantly: do not place bowls near the litter box!

If the animal sits in the vehicle for a long time, take the toy bar and wave it near the kitten. In this way, you will switch the baby's attention to the game. Gradually, the animal will forget about the stress associated with a new place, smells and strangers. As soon as the kitten delves into the game, take the fishing rod further so that he leaves his hiding place. So he will begin to get acquainted with the new space. If he still sits inside and does not respond, leave him alone for a while. Some kittens need silence to adapt.

It may happen that the kitten sits in the carrier all day and only when it darkens, begins to carefully go outside and explore the territory. It may happen that the baby comes out, walks around the room, and then hides in some secluded place. This is a kind of habitat of the animal, where it feels safe. Let the baby create his own hiding place - under the sofa, chair or in the closet.

There are cases when a kitten is so shy that it cannot be lured out with a fishing rod, carrot mouse or treats. Then it is worth trying to lure the baby out of the hiding place on your own. Do not worry, you have not caught a coward, it's just that his instincts for self-preservation are so strong that he is not able to think about anything but to protect himself. In this situation, it is important to help, not to frighten. Once you've got your kitten out, move it to a corner. You do not need to constantly caress the baby and say: You are not in danger. It does not need to be done so that you can caress it. Believe me, it will not help. Try to involve the kitten in the game so that the hunting instinct overcomes the instincts of self-preservation.

As a rule, the first day in a new place the animal does not eat, does not drink and does not go to the toilet. The reason for this behavior is stress. First the cat thinks about safety, and only then about everything else. Therefore, leave the pallet in the room where his bowls and the carrier are located for a couple of days. Once your kitten has mastered the entire apartment, you can safely move his toilet to a place convenient for you, for example, in the bathroom.

Help the kitten, show him his new possessions: the hallway, bedroom, kitchen, but only gradually, and not all at once. Believe me, during the period of time you live together, your cat will know better than you about all the hidden places in the apartment. You will understand this when you crawl through all the rooms and shelves, but it also will not find where this fluffy bandit likes to be alone with himself. And it doesn't matter if you're running around with Corvalol, weighing your heart and yelling, My Barsik is gone! It's just that Barsik has decided to think about the construction of the universe in complete solitude.

    Meeting with children

Before the birth of the baby, most domestic cats believe that the world revolves around them. But with the birth of the baby, priorities change and almost all attention is paid to the newborn. At this time, you should not forget about the pet, because a change in the number of family members will cause stress not only for you, but also for the cat. Try to devote time to the fluffy, say that he is good, cute and smart, even if he has a very mediocre relationship with the truth. The animal needs attention and love, although it does not always show it. Often, expectant parents worry that cats may show aggression towards the child or somehow harm him. As a rule, at the first acquaintance, the cat does not lick with hugs at the child. Rather, he will be scared, especially if the child screams and cries. Only after a while the fluffy will come to himself and begin to study and study the new object that has appeared, as he believes, on his territory. At this point, gently bring the newborn
