Many studies have found that domestic cats enjoy the company of other cats and even wild cats will live in prides, like lions, if there are plenty of resources to share. This means that having two well-matched cats in your home is not only purr-fectly fine for the cats, but it can also be extremely beneficial for them.

Introducing a new cat to your home is stressful and can be overwhelming for the cat: they literally have almost nothing familiar to them to help them adjust.
