A World of Poems - Anna Rong Li

    Introduction

    A BEGINNING TO OUR JOURNEY

    It all started the day

we met our fifth grade English teacher

She lit the way for us

showed us the beauty of writing

    The beauty of poetry

    turning thoughts into words

    Creations of true magic

    a wonder to behold

    Precious phrases, sentences

could create a story. Our story.

    - Chloe Ding & Anna Li

    5th grade; 2023-2024

    I

    Nature

    Fog

    By Chloe Ding

The city, shrouded in a sheet of mist

a moist blanket descending on the world

the clouds come to say hello

    but no answer is returned.

    Like a coat of magic

    sleek white and silky

like the soft whisper of the wind

    a gift to the earth.

    The rays of sunlight

    kiss the morning air

like a gentle puff of smoke

    dispersing through the city

    calmness spread everywhere

a sheen of beauty to gaze through

a soft panel of misty glass

    Hello, my friend, hello.

    How Does It Feel?

    By Anna Li

How does it feel to be a leaf, a branch, or a tree?

    With the wind whistling through,

cold, still, but still very much alive.

How does it feel to be a home,

    to be precious,

    to be treasured?

How does it feel to be used

    like something endless

    something lifeless

when you know that you are full of

    Life?

    When you know that someday,

    somehow,

    you will die out

    We may never know

    until

    we are

    trees.

    The Bridge to Paradise

    By Chloe Ding

The vines and bushes part revealing a path unknown

part way as I take step after step down the path

and stare into the distance, seeing everything

and the dry, barren wasteland that we have created.

The vast ocean, once filled with natural wonders

has drained of its color, and of its love

human neglect has stripped the world of its beauty

pollution spread like a lethal disease.

    A weathered bridge

cobbled together with wood and stone

has been talked about crossing, countless times

but has never really been crossed.

On the other side, I can see

    the epitome of nature

    a world of color

a true utopia for those who deserve it.

With each day, the bridge grows weaker

and someday soon, before someone can cross it

it will break and shatter to pieces like glass

and all hope for nature’s survival will crumble with it.

As I cross the bridge, the color of the leaves slowly change

from gray to pale orange, to finally saturated red

the grass, each strand once wilting towards the ground

shoot up, swaying in the wind with the flowering plants.

But a gentle tug at a leaf,

all that surrounds it crumbles into dust.

    Nature is a fragile thing,

and we have pushed it to its limits.

Soon it will be too late, and nature will fall to its demise
